Household & Outside Maintenance for the Elderly (HOME)

The Household and Outside Maintenance for the Elderly Program is very fortunate to have fantastic maintenance

ple as changing a light bulb - our workers are ready to help with the tasks around your house that may have been put off or cannot be completed without assistance. A one hour minimum is required per visit. Rates are determined by your household monthly income. For questions about our services, give the HOME office a call at 952-746-4046. Household & Outside Maintenance for Elderly (HOME) Program Enables Seniors to Remain in Their Own Home

"I can continue to live independently, thanks to Senior Community Services."

Helen, 82, has lived in her modest, west metro home for 53 years, but she worried that her days of independence

might be coming to a close. While in good health, Helen struggled to accomplish many household tasks like

snow-shoveling, window-washing and raking the fall leaves that blanket her spacious lawn.

Helen considered moving to an assisted-living apartment, but the cost made her nervous, and a move would place

her farther from her children, grandchildren, and neighborhood friends. Thankfully, Helen's daughter discovered the

Household & Outside Maintenance for Elderly (HOME) program. The HOME program provides affordable services for

seniors 60 and older through a network of staff, volunteers, and independent contractors. "HOME is a wonderful way

to help seniors maintain independence and give caregivers a break from household duties.”

"Thanks to Senior Community Services, I can live in my own home

longer and enjoy my neighborhood. I'm so grateful," Helen says.

Since utilizing the HOME program, Helen also has benefited from

Medicare counseling to reduce her healthcare costs, and she had a

worrisome financial debt from a hospital stay forgiven thanks to help

from Senior Community Services' Senior Partners Care program.

Calling all Volunteers!!! Do you have an interest in lending a helping hand? Or do you know of someone interested in volunteering this spring or sum-mer? The HOME program is always looking for volunteers of all ages to help with many tasks in and out of the office. We are currently looking for a couple of volunteers willing to help with administrative duties in our Minnetonka Office, near the Ridgedale Shopping Center. Volunteers would help assist our office staff with stuffing envelopes, making new clients packets, answering phones and other administrative tasks. If you are inter-ested in filling this role, or know of other things you would like to help with, give the HOME office a call at 952-746-4046.

HOME Welcome’s a New Program Assistant! Christine Tzanakis

I am so thrilled to have started with the HOME program this February! Originally from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, I have re-cently moved back to the great state of Minnesota. I graduated from the University of Minnesota: Twin Cities in the Spring of 2012, with a major in Kinesiology. My passion lies in helping people of all ages and providing the highest quality of commu-nity service. For fun, I love to vacation, try new foods and spend time with my friends and family. I am very excited to see what will be in store for me at SCS!

Senior Community Services has partnered with Jewish Fam-ily and Children’s Services of Minneapolis to offer you safe, reliable and affordable transportation and shopping ser-vices. The service provides curb-to-curb transportation around the greater Minneapolis area (with some geographic restrictions.) Services can also arrange for both regularly scheduled and occasional shopping trips to your local gro-cery store, pharmacy or bank, as well as taking you on per-sonal errands. Cost of service is based on a sliding fee scale.

SCS Partner’s Up!

For more information about JFCS and to arrange for services, please call 952-546-0616.

The HOME Program Grows with a New Partnership with CEAP

The HOME program is excited to announce that as of March, our services will extend to the city of Brooklyn Park! This became possible after HOME was able to resume the chore services Brooklyn Park’s ‘Community Emergency As-sistance Program’ (CEAP) formally provided. The HOME program mirrors many of the services that CEAP provided, including homemaking, in-home maintenance and lawn care/snow removal. We look forward to taking on new cli-ents both this upcoming spring and fall! For any questions about HOME services and/or this new development, feel free to give the HOME office at call at 952-746-4046.

Thank you! - to all at HOME

Dear HOME,

My “thank you” seems so small compared to what you folks did

for me, last October. I was overwhelmed! A group of 10

volunteers, raked, cut, bundled and bagged leaves, etc.

HOME is a FABULOUS PROGRAM!! I’ll always remember your

kindness. God Bless all of you.

-A current HOME client

P.S. I am 86 years old and have been in my home since it was

built 59 years ago. I am so appreciative!
