    Members of the Commons (MPs) debate the big political issues of the day and proposals for new laws.

  • ROLESThe Commons alone is responsible for making decisions on financial Bills, such as proposed new taxes.

    MPs can also raise issues which their constituents have raised in the House of Commons only to debate them with other MPs.

  • Who's WHO in Commons?The Prime Minister -is the leader of the party in power and the head of the government

    The Cabinet - The Prime Minister and the Cabinet meet regularly to discuss important issues.

  • Who's WHO in Commons?The speaker - presides over the House of Commons and ensures everyone respects its rules and traditions.

    Leader of the Opposition and Critics - the Leader of the Opposition is the leader of the party with the second largest membership in the Commons.

  • Who's WHO in Commons?Whips - The Whips ensure that enough party members are in the Chamber for debates and votes.
