House Airway BillIssued by a freight forwarder (consolidator) to a shipper as a receipt for the goods which will be shipped with other cargo as one consignment to avail of better freight rates. Although it is not a complete document of title, a HAWB has a legal-standing similar to that of a MAWB. Also called forwarder's Airway Bill.

House Airway BillThe House airway bill is the most important document issued by a carrier through its authorized agent. It is a non-negotiable transport document. It covers transport of cargo from airport to airport. By accepting a shipment an IATA cargo agent is acting on behalf of the carrier whose air waybill is issued.

House Airway BillThere are several purposes that an HAWB serves, but its main functions are:

Contract of Carriage.Behind every original of the Air Waybill are conditions of contract for carriage.

Evidence of Receipt of GoodsWhen the shipper delivers goods to be forwarded, an original copy of the HAWB is given to the shipper as evidence of the acceptance of goods in good order and condition as instructed in the LC as proof of contract of carriage.

House Airway BillFreight BillThe HAWB may be used as a bill or invoice together with supporting documents since it may indicate charges to be paid by the consignee, charges due to the agent or the carrier. An original copy of the air waybill is used for the carrier's accounting.

Certificate of InsuranceThe HAWB may also serve as an evidence if the carrier is in a position to insure the shipment and is requested to do so by the shipper.
