MAsTER PlAn Councilmember Rex Richardson and the City of Long Beach are working with the Gateway COG to address community needs by developing a comprehensive Artesia Boulevard Corridor Complete Street Evaluation and Master Plan to enhance the sustainability of the neighborhoods along Artesia Blvd. and address transportation needs.
2. scAg gRAnT – ARTEsiA BlvD. OPEn sTREETs EvEnT In June 2015, Councilmember Rex Richardson and the City of Long Beach submitted a proposal for a project on Artesia Blvd. to the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) as a part of SCAG’s Open Streets and Temporary Events Call for Projects. If funded, this project will combine an Open Street event on Artesia Blvd. with a Complete Streets demonstration, which provides visioning and temporary corridor improvements to showcase local neighborhoods and businesses while engaging community members and stakeholders in re-imagining the Artesia corridor.
3. ARTEsiA BlvD REviTAlizATiOn PHAsE 1 funDing sTRATEgy: MTA cAll fOR PROjEcTs In the Spring of 2015, the City of Long Beach submitted a proposal to MTA for capital improvements to address severe congestion issues along Artesia Blvd., plus a series of bicycle, pedestrian and transit improvements to increase mobility for all modes of travel. If approved, the City will receive notification from MTA in the Fall of 2015 for a $4,700,000 grant to increase mobility for all modes of travel.

Councilmember Rex Richardson is engaging community members and business leaders to help revitalize Atlantic Ave. and Artesia Blvd. When the development plan is implemented, Atlantic Blvd will be on track to be transformed into a revitalized and thriving residential, commercial, and community service hub.

The Houghton Park Master Plan will be the blueprint for the future of Houghton Park.
2. nEw HOugHTOn PARk cOMMuniTy cEnTER DEsign Councilmember Rex Richardson and the Departments of Parks, Recreation and Marine and Public Works have joined with the community to “Imagine Houghton”: how can a new Houghton Park community center better serve today’s residents?
3. DE fOREsT wETlAnDs REsTORATiOn PROjEcT PHAsE 1 The De Forest Wetlands Restoration Project will restore 34 acres of wetlands to improve water quality, preserve scrub and woodland habitat, and retain flood control properties, which will provide community members with a beautiful recreational green parkway along the lower Los Angeles River.
4. 9TH DisTRicT OPEn sPAcE MAsTER PlAn In February of 2015, Councilmember Richardson sponsored a Council Item to develop a 9th District Open Space Master Plan. The 9th District Open Space Master Plan will engage and empower community to build more park and green space throughout the district in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services and the North Long Beach HEAL zone Initiative.

1. gATEwAy cOuncil Of gOvERnMEnTs - ARTEsiA BlvD. MAsTER PlAn Councilmember Rex Richardson and the City of Long Beach are working with the Gateway COG to address community needs by developing a comprehensive Artesia Boulevard Corridor Complete Street Evaluation and Master Plan to enhance the sustainability of the neighborhoods along Artesia Blvd. and address transportation needs.
2. scAg gRAnT – ARTEsiA BlvD. OPEn sTREETs EvEnT In June 2015, Councilmember Rex Richardson and the City of Long Beach submitted a proposal for a project on Artesia Blvd. to the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) as a part of SCAG’s Open Streets and Temporary Events Call for Projects. If funded, this project will combine an Open Street event on Artesia Blvd. with a Complete Streets demonstration, which provides visioning and temporary corridor improvements to showcase local neighborhoods and businesses while engaging community members and stakeholders in re-imagining the Artesia corridor.

ARTEsiA BlvD REviTAlizATiOn PHAsE 1 funDing sTRATEgy: MTA cAll fOR PROjEcTs In the Spring of 2015, the City of Long Beach submitted a proposal to MTA for capital improvements to address severe congestion issues along Artesia Blvd., plus a series of bicycle, pedestrian and transit improvements to increase mobility for all modes of travel. If approved, the City will receive notification from MTA in the Fall of 2015 for a $4,700,000 grant to increase mobility for all modes of travel.

Councilmember Rex Richardson is engaging community members and business leaders to help revitalize Atlantic Ave. and Artesia Blvd. When the development plan is implemented, Atlantic Blvd will be on track to be transformed into a revitalized and thriving residential, commercial, and community service hub.

The Houghton Park Master Plan will be the blueprint for the future of Houghton Park.
2. nEw HOugHTOn PARk cOMMuniTy cEnTER DEsign Councilmember Rex Richardson and the Departments of Parks, Recreation and Marine and Public Works have joined with the community to “Imagine Houghton”: how can a new Houghton Park community center better serve today’s residents?
3. DE fOREsT wETlAnDs REsTORATiOn PROjEcT PHAsE 1 The De Forest Wetlands Restoration Project will restore 34 acres of wetlands to improve water quality, preserve scrub and woodland habitat, and retain flood control properties, which will provide community members with a beautiful recreational green parkway along the lower Los Angeles River.
4. 9TH DisTRicT OPEn sPAcE MAsTER PlAn In February of 2015, Councilmember Richardson sponsored a Council Item to develop a 9th District Open Space Master Plan. The 9th District Open Space Master Plan will engage and empower community to build more park and green space throughout the district in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services and the North Long Beach HEAL zone Initiative.
