The Vizze Valley is not just any Alpine valley, but it is an area of great geological interest. Here, over thecourse of millions of years, the forces of the earth have brought enormous formations and rocky layers tothe surface, through orogenetic movements. The entire floor of a sea, which had originally been made up ofbasaltic lava, has been corrugated, melded and metamorphically transformed, taking the form of interestinggreen rocks in the southern part of the valley on the downhill side; in the north, again on the downhill side,standing tall, partially vertical, is the light formation in gneiss of the European continental plaque.A narrow vein ofwhite quartzite winds its way through these powerful rock formations and is extractedfrom a small quarry at the bottom of the Vizze Valley. Only 5% of this rock is made up of dark quartzite,which is highly prized for massages with the primordial stone.
