COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis course provides education on the newer interventional therapies available to various neurological and neurosurgical conditions that have evolved over the last 10 years including, but not limited to, the latest in deep brain stimulation and endovascular interventions for cerebrovascular disease.

INTENDED AUDIENCEPrimary care physicians and nurse practitioners are the first to encounter these complex neurological disorders. With the advances in the recent years, practitioners do not have the prior knowledge to determine whether patients should be referred for these procedures.

DATE AND LOCATIONHot Topics in Neurology and Neurosurgery for the Primary Clinician will be held June 7-8, 2012. Course headquarters will be located in the Marriott Ballroom on the second floor of the Rochester Marriott Hotel, Rochester, Minnesota. Meeting facilities are easily accessible by skyway and pedestrian subway, which connect Mayo Clinic to shops, restaurants, and hotels.

REGISTRATIONTo register online, visit http://www.mayo.edu/cme/neurology-and-neurologic-surgery or complete the attached registration form and return by mail or fax. The registration fee includes tuition, comprehensive course syllabus (available online prior to the course), continental breakfast, lunch, and refreshments. Although it is not Mayo School of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) policy to limit the number of registrants for a course, conference room facilities may necessitate closing of enrollment; therefore, early registration is advised. A letter of confirmation will be sent upon receipt of payment and completed registration form. Please present the confirmation letter when checking in at the meeting registration desk.

SYLLABUS AND INTERNET ACCESSA link to the electronic course syllabus will be sent to participants one week prior to the course. Participants are invited to bring their laptops to the meeting room. Complimentary internet access is included with the cost of the course registration.

CANCELLATION POLICYIf you cancel your participation in this course, your registration fee, less a $75 administrative fee, will be refunded when written notification is received by Mayo School of CPD before May 24, 2012 (fax#: 507-284-0532 or email [email protected]). No refunds will be made on or after May 24, 2012. Canceled registrations are non-transferable.

Mayo School of CPD reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event Mayo School of CPD must cancel or postpone this course, Mayo School of CPD will refund the registration fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees assessed by airline/travel/lodging agencies.

TRAVELRochester, Minnesota is serviced by an international airport with multiple flights daily via American or Delta Airlines. Access to and from the airport is provided by taxi, shuttle service, and rental car. The airport is located approximately 10 miles from the Mayo Clinic campus.

LODGING ACCOMMODATIONSGuest rooms have been reserved for attendees and their guests with special course rates at the following downtown Rochester hotels. In order to receive the special rate, reservations must be made before the room block is filled or before the expiration date of May 16, 2012, whichever comes first. Program ScheduleABFM Self-Assessment Module - Cerebrovascular DiseaseIn this group learning experience, attendees will work together, facilitated by Mayo Clinic faculty, to review and discuss the SAM core competency questions and to decide on the best answers as a group. After completing the session, Mayo staff will report the group’s answers and individual’s participation to the ABFM. Later, participants must individually access the ABFM website, pay the necessary fees, and complete the clinical simulation section (which presents patient care scenarios corresponding to the topic module) in order to complete and receive final credit for the SAM.

Please Note:There is a separate registration fee for the Self-Assessment session; attendees will be individually responsible for the additional ABFM fees required before completing the clinical simulation section.
