    Die Weisse/Sudwerk, Rupertgasse 10 Both partof the same complex, Die Weisse and Sudwerkhave a vibrant atmosphere. It comes inbottles or tall glasses and you can buy six bottles inthe accompanying shop for 14.40. On Fridays andSaturdays mojitos are 4.90 all night.     Alter Markt The Alter Markt area is a warren ofnarrow lanes and squares filled with boutiques,small shops and some stal ls too. Many of these cafs haveoutdoor seating, so its also a good area forpeople-watching.

    Climb every mountain

    The Untersberg Located near the picturesquetown of Gartneau just 30 minutes outside ofSalzburg, the Untersberg is the highestmountain near the city. Approximately 1.86kmhigh, you can reach the peak by cable car.Once you're up there, you'll find amazing viewseven on cloudy days. Avid walkers will enjoy thedifferent hiking trails all over the mountain top.Return trip in cable car costs 19.

    Old Town Salzburg's Old Town is also the heart ofthe city centre. Famous for its well-preservedbaroque architecture and a plethora of attractions,here is where you'll find Mozart's birthplace amongmany other places of interest.     Mnchsberg Overlooking the city, Mnchsberg ishome to some of Salzburg's most well-renownedattractions namely the Hohensalzburg Fortress andthe Museum de Moderne. You can also wanderthrough the woods or take a minute to appreciatethe breathtaking views of the city.

    Hellbrunn If you fancy getting out of the city for awhile, Hellbrunn is a great choice. Not only will youfind the Hellbrunn Summer Palace, Salzburg Zooand a huge park to wander around, you can visit theworld famous trick fountains. These fountains arefascinating and a lot of fun.     Mirabell Market, beside Mirabell Garage TheMirabell Market is popular with locals looking for agood bargain and it's a great place to go to get areal taste of Austrian markets.     Getreidegasse This is, without a doubt, one of theprettiest shopping streets in the world. All shops onthis street must display a wrought iron guild sign.Along Getreidegasse, you'll find clothes shops,souvenir shops and much more. Chain stores mixwith local names here. The street, for al l i tscontemporary brand names, has an old timey feelto it and is a favourite with visitors.

    To market, to market

    University Square Market, UniversittsplatzIf you're looking for handcrafts and souvenirs,check out the outdoor market onUniversittsplatz. It's comprised of lots of stallsand vans, selling everything from woodcrafts toflowers to soaps to baskets. There are alsomany food stalls in the market, which areparticularly busy at weekends.     Linzer Gasse Shops on Linzer Gasse also displaysome elaborate guild signs. Here you'll find manysmaller stores and boutiques. From clothes tojewellery to traditional Austrian costumes to CDs tosouvenirs, it's all here. This is a good place to buyMozartkuglen, as the shops in this area generallyseem to sell them for less than places across theriver in the city centre.

    Goldgasse This is a street f i l led wi th moreupmarket and smaller stores and boutiques. Ifyou're interested in some high class gifts, this is agreat place to go jewellery shopping. There are alsolots of boutiques.

    Budget Tips A Day in Salzburg...

    Get a Salzburg card With so many of Salzburg'splaces of interest charging admission, this card canbe a real ly good opt ion. You could v is i t theUntersberg, use the cable car and pop into theHellbrunn trick fountains, all for free. It also allowsyou to use public transport free of charge. Thecards are valid for 24, 48 or 72 hours and cost 24,32 or 37 respectively.

    Visit the Salzburg Cathedral This 17th centurybaroque Cathedral, where Mozart was baptised, iswell worth a visit. When you get inside, check outthe large dome and intricate ceiling designs. Ornatepews and organs can also be seen here. OpenMon-Sat 8am-5/6/7/8pm, Sunday 1pm-5/6/7/8pm;admission free.

    Try not to burst into song as you wanderaround Mirabell Gardens Home to some locationsused in the movie 'The Sound of Music', they firstopened to the public in 1854. Today you can sit bythe fountains, stroll through the hedge theatre orcheck out the 28 dwarf statues in the dwarf garden.Open daily, 6am-dusk; admission free.

    Stroll through St. Peter's Cemetery Close to theexit of the fortress funicular, it is filled with veryornate graves, complete with lanterns, decoratedheadstones and flowers. Some of these markersare very old, and belong to many notable citizens ofSalzburg including members of Mozart's family.Open Apr-Sept 6.30am-7pm, Oct-Mar 6.30am-6pm;admission free.

    Not all black and white

    Play chess on the giant chess board inKapitelplatz Painted on the ground in thesquare behind the Cathedral, the chess board isoften surrounded by people waiting to take aturn and onlookers. You'll also find a few tallbarrels with traditional chess sets assembled ontop of them here. Free admission.

    Begin your day with a breakfast special or just acoffee and a pastry at Flckner on Linzer Gasse.Wander down the street looking at the shops.

    From there walk back to Mirabellplatz where youcan catch the No. 25 bus to Hellbrunn (above).Here you can visit the trick fountains and the palaceor stroll through the park.

    Head back into the city centre to find somewhere toeat. The Alter Markt area is filled with cafs andres tauran ts to choose f rom, such as CafTomaselli.

    From traditional Austrian dishes to Italian to manyothers, youll no doubt find somewhere for dinnerin the area around Getreidegasse or nearbyGriesgasse.

    Just a short walk from here youll find Murphy'sLaw, an Irish bar with a lively atmosphere and greatdrinks offers.

    Why not end the night at the Republic on AntonNeumayr Platz. Have a drink outside or party at oneof the venue's club nights in the funky bar areasinside.
