• Also called the undead, zombies are human corpses that come back to l i fe .
• Zombies are created by a h ighly contagious v irus that spreads through bi t ing and contact with bodily f lu ids, s imilar to the b ird f lu .
• The h ighly contagious vi rus causes extreme aggress ion, mutation to the body cells, and loss of h igher brain functions.
• Symptoms of the transformation include headaches, ch il ls , and other f lu -l ike symptoms. The infected w il l then fall into a short coma, transforming in a mere 4-6 hours ready to attack.

prepare.

WhattodoFindoutthepossibleemergenciesthatcouldhappeninyourarea.Events such as hurricanes, tornadoes and floods could occur, so be prepared.
Findanescape. If zombies were to attack your home, pick a place your family could meet up at such as a place that is outside of your neighborhood or town. Make sure the escape place has minimum noise and entrances that are easier to guard.
Keepclosetolovedonesandalistofemergencycontacts. In case of being invaded, contact the police department, fire department or emergency response team. Also, if something happens, keep in touch with someone you trust out of state to let them you know you’re okay.
Makeamapofyourescaperoute. Zombies will want to feed on your brains and flesh, so once they invade and your supplies are gone, run. Make sure you include different alternative routes on the map incase you encounter a zombie.
Preparingforotheremergencies• Inform you and your family about your community ’s
emergency p lans, warning signals, evacuation routes and local emergency shelters.
• Reduce the r isk for injury by reducing household hazards: turn off all electr ical power, gas and water ut i l it ies.
• Secure the unstable building materials in your home and avoid glass w indows. Cover any windows or doors wi th e ither p lywood, boards or masking tape in order to protect f rom fly ing glass.
• I f any family members are disabled, contact local authorit ies about i t and keep close to someone who wi l l assist you to help them when necessary.
• Move furniture away f rom any glass surfaces and secure large appl iances wi th a cable or metal strapping.
• Write down any important information such as insurance policy, account numbers, and te lephone numbers.
