Traditional Woodland Skills

Unique opportunity each day - workshops on other traditional woodland skills to complement horselogging - green woodworking, metal forging and charcoal burning - including making a swingle tree and replacement wooden pegs for logging equip- ment (left). For this part, Barbara will be assisted by James Carpenter, woodland manager at Coed Llwynonn.

The course runs from 12 noon on Monday 2nd until 2pm on Friday 6th April. Each day will run approx. 10am - 4pm with plenty of time in the evenings for extra horse care, reading about horselogging, chatting about horselogging or finishing green woodworking projects/tending the charcoal burner.

A good level of basic fitness and a willingness to spend all day in the great outdoors is useful. Free on site camping is available with access to camp kitchen and compost loo. Local accommodation is available.

The course is run by Barbara Haddrill, a BHL-approved contractor, who runs Carnog Working Horses along with her cobs Tyler and Molly.

Join us for a week at Coed Llwynonn, Anglesey, for a unique opportunity to learn practical horselogging with plenty of hands on the reins time as part of a small group (max. 4 people). The course covers: horse care, selection of work

horse, harness and equipment snigging with a single horse and a

pair using a timber arch and other

wheeled equipment parbuckling and working with the

horses to pull down hung up trees health and safety and professional

working standards.

This course is suitable for any level of prior experience but previous attendance at a one day working horse course or prior experience with horses would be an advantage.
