Page 2: Horror Film Titles Analysis

This is the title for the Insidious horror film. The horror film is about a young boy

and the paranormal experiences that he and his parents become involved in. The

title is in the colour red, a colour which is often used in the horror film genre, it is

mostly used to symbolise blood and distress. The points of the font make the title

more attention-gripping and intriguing, the black background also adds to the

mystery of the film, demonstrating how you cannot see in the dark, and what may

be lurking there. The smudging of the font also leads to the theory of dissembling

and purposely altering the writing.

This is the title for the first Saw film, it is about victims of a serial killer, Jigsaw,

who forces them to play gruesome games to stay alive and be freed. The title is a

very blunt example of what happens in the movie, two fingers which have

evidentially been cut off are acting as the number “2” for the title as it’s the

second movie of the series, also showing the obvious nature of the film. The

colour of the dead fingers is also the same colour as the grungy title, showing the

use of the colour of dead flesh. Above the title there is a line of pointed metal,

which could be assumed to be a chainsaw, which also explains the use of intense

tools used as torture and game pieces for the film.

This is the title for The Woman In Black film which is about a mourning ghost

who kills children due to the painful loss of her deceased son of years ago,

where a unknowing lawyer goes to the house of the ghost and experiences

paranormal happenings. This title shows the eerie nature of the film, with the

use of font which resembles old hand-writing, which is smudged which could

be a example of distress and distortion of the writing. The background is

also pitch black, which adds to the feeling of the film, showing the emptiness

and the blank space which can resemble the darkness of the film and the

dark places which can make people feel panicky, uncomfortable and

anxious.
