he horoscope of Swami Sivananda is very interesting as it discloses apparentlynothing uncommon. His horoscope is as follows:

Su: 15 Aq 40; Mo: 02 Le 00; Ma: 07 Li 42; Me: 02 Aq 06; Ju: 13 Sc 15;

Ve: 11 Cp 15; Sa: 02 Cn 20; Ra: 01 Cn 06; Ke: 01 Cp 06

Swami Sivananda was born on Monday, the day of the Full Moon, 27th February

1888 in the District of Midnapore, West Bengal. His lord of the Lagna, Jupiter, is almost

free from any aspect. Jupiter, on the other hand, is aspecting Saturn, forming thereby SannyasaYoga. Truly speaking, Rahu cannot cast any impact upon Jupiter. The aspect of Rahu in thiscase is negligible. Hence, the Pravrajya Yoga is not cancelled. Jupiter aspects Lagna and the

5th. The 5th is also aspected by Venus. The 12th is also powerful and partly responsible for

his monkhood. The Sun in the 12th is not bad because he is the lord of the 6 th and is the

atmakaraka planet here. Aquarius, the mystical and mysterious sign, becomes the

Karaka Lagna. Ketu is in the 12

th

along with Venus from the Karaka Lagna. Ketu is alsoaspected by the 9th lord Mars. This can give salvation. Jupiter, the 10th lord, has become

unique as he is in the 9th. It is interesting to note that from the Karaka Lagna also, Mars,

the 10th lord, is in the 9th and is free from any aspect. Lagna lord posited in the 9th

generally makes one fortunate, leader, religious and a devotee of Lord Vishnu. The

result will vary according to the strength and affliction of the planet, which happens to

be the Lagna lord. Here the result has been the maximum because of the strength of

unblemished Jupiter, posited in a friendly house.

This Jupiter is in paravata varga. We are to note that Jupiter is the lord of the 5th

from the Chandra Lagna and is posited in a Kendra. Jupiter, the unblemished 5th lord

from the Moon, has become capable of giving the realization of Brahma as he is in

paravatamsa as per the statement of parasara:

Paravate tatha vachyam brahmavidya samanvitam

In this horoscope, Jupiter is the planet which alone is capable of giving

concentration, meditation and ecstasy.

Yogi Barada Charan Majumder was a house-holder-yogi, who never wanted to come

to the limelight as a spiritual master. It was Kazi Nazrul Islam, the rebel poet of Bengal,

who first tried to introduce him to the public. Barada Charan initiated Nazrul into yoga.

Sri Aurobindo called Barada Charan the greatest yogi of modern Bengal. During his

life-time, few people could know him closely. He was a concealed yogi. We may study

his horoscope here.

What first of all arrests our attention here is that all the planets are placed in the

5th, the 6th, the 7th and the 8th houses respectively. Aquarius is Lagna which is a mysterious

and fixed sign. Venus, yoga-forming planet for this Lagna, is posited in the 5th

alongwith Saturn, lord of the Ascendant. Gemini is a friendly house for both Venus and

Saturn. The 5th house, therefore, has become very strong. Mercury, lord of the 5th, is

posited in a Kendra aspected by Lagna lord Saturn. This has also enhanced the efficacy

of the 5th. Rahu in Kendra has formed a Raja Yoga as he is with Mercury, lord of a

trikona house. Jupiter, the lord of the 2nd and the 11th, is in the 8th. This is not good for

income and wealth. There is a consolation. Jupiter is aspecting the 2nd. From the Moon,

the 2nd house is also weak and the lord of the 11th is in the 12th. Barada Charan came of

middle class Bengali Brahmin family of what is now Bangladesh. After his graduation

in 1914, he started his career as an Assistant Head Master in a high school and after a

lapse of six months was appointed Head Master in another school. From both Lagna and

the Moon, Mars is lord of the 10th. He is joined byJupiter. This explains his profession.

Lord of the 6th in the 6th is also responsible for this profession. From Chandra Lagna, Jupiter

and Mars, lords of the 9th and the 10th, are combined in the 3rd and they are aspecting the

9th. Saturn also aspects the 9th from the Moon. The religio-spiritual prospect of the

horoscope is manifest primarily because of the strength of the 5th house referred to earlier

and also because of the fact that the 9 th and the 10th lords from the Moon have joined

together and aspect the 9th. Although Jupiter and Mars are not posited in a friendly

house, they are free from any malefic aspect. Barada Charan was fortunate to have

enjoyed the major period of the 9th lord Venus in his youth. The Moon is ahead of the

Sun as we see in the horoscope of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Mercury is the lord of

the 5th from the Ascendant and is in paravata varga which can confer Brahma vidya. Here

he is in a friendly house identical with a Kendra and is aspected by Saturn, Lagna lord,

who is placed in the house of the former. This enabled him to remain absorbed in the

unfathomable depths of ecstasy. In his book, Revealed Twelve, he has given a newinterpretation of yoga.
