The End is Near December 18, 2017 is just a few short weeks away. Some of you will lose a very dear and old friend. One that has not kept up with the times. Your Log Book. All vehicles will be on ELDs by this date to meet the mandatory federal mandate. We want to remind everyone that is still using paper logs, please come in and get your vehicle set up for this important update. The switch over will require a few moments of your time. It can be performed either at the Monroeville Corporate Office, or the Birmingham Terminal.

A message from our Director of Safety
ELD’s have not changed the HOS rules Whenever you load, unload, fuel, or perform any work or inspection on your equipment, you are still required to document this on line 4 On-Duty not Driving. Not entering the proper status is considered falsification of your ELD, a major violation with high fines involved.
Do not put yourself in a predicament where you can be fined for not performing your required duties. DOT Officers are starting to get fully trained on ELDs. Once they have been trained, you will see more and more inspections on the proper use and completion of your ELD.
If you have any questions or concerns about HOS and ELD requirements, feel free to call or stop by the Safety Department. -Wolf Lindh

Winter Injury PreventionAdverse Weather Conditions
Remember: 4,000 points will be provided if you complete the online safety training within the month of November.
Winter Preparation! It is important to think about “winter preparations.”
Every winter related problem can be minimized or eliminated by proper preparation. Let’s start
checking our heaters, blower motors, wipers/windshield washers, etc. and insure
everything is ready. If maintenance is needed, report items to be repaired
at the next shop visit.
Know if your fuel has been “blended or treated for cold weather.
Drain the fuel/water separator at each fuelingDrain your air tanks daily on the tractor and trailer
keep equipment off your catwalk. If needed, try to add a 50/50 coolant mixture
Insure that all electrical powered accessories are off and/or unplugged during “engine off” periods.
Park in a location where you can be “jumped off” if necessary.
Apply trailer breaks momentarily before parking to help remove moisture from lining or drums.
When first starting to move, check to see that all wheels on the trailer are turning, not dragging.
Do not race the engine above 1,000 RPM’s when the engine starts until the engine runs smoothly.
Tips to keep you from being out in the cold!
Our trucks do not require a winter frontDo not spin tires- When operating in snowy or slippery
conditions, always lock in the power divider. Unlock when traction is achieved.
If only your tractor has ABS, steer clear of obstacles and watch the trailer through mirror to make sure it follows
your tractor properly. Tractor ABS will hellp prevent tractor jackknife but will not prevent trailer swing out. If
only your trailer has ABS, use the rig’s brakes as necessary to maintain control and keep your combination in it’s lane.
Tractor ABS will help prevent jackknife, but will not help prevent trailer swing out.
If the vehicle won’t build air pressure, the air governor or air drier exhaust may be frozen. Pour very hot water on
each to thaw, or tap lightly. Limit cranking intervals to 30 seconds. Allow the started to
cool.
Tips to keep you from being out in the cold!
