HORIZONTAL COLLABORATION

MEANING OF COLLABORATION

• collaboration takes place when members of an

inclusive learning community work together as equals toassist students to succeed in the classroom. This may bein the form of lesson planning with the special needschild in mind, or co-teaching a group or class.

PURPOSE OF COLLABRATION

• Collaborative teaching aims to maximizelearning by reducing learner/teacher ratio tomore effectively meet learner needs.

• It also effectively uses expertise existing in thecollege community.

What do the teaching team members

do?• The teaching team members identify, respect and value

each team member’s knowledge and experience.

• To make a joint commitment to plan together.

• To make arrangements to incorporate team-planningtime during school hours - this is ideally a whole collegecommitment.

• To define roles and responsibilities of each teammember.

• To explain to learners how the collaboration works.

• To discuss issues carefully to ensure full understanding.

• share differing values and cultural understandings.

• be prepared to learn, shift position and deal with problems

constructively.

building

ADVANTAGES OF HORIZONTAL

COLLABORATION

• The lack of integration between basic science disciplinescauses difficulties for students who need to understandhow the parts function together as an integrated wholeand apply this understanding to solving clinicalproblems.

• May increase in students’ confidence, positive attitude,ability to learn, and perception of neuroscience contentand knowledge.

• may enhance students’ neuroscience knowledge and their ability to interpret clinical data.

BENEFITS OF HORIZONTAL COLLABORATION

• Better understanding of faculties.

• Agreement to teach common system at a time.

• Taking class test in morning lectures to avoid absencefrom the class.

• To frame teaching planner month wise.

• To cover the curriculum of the specialties with mutualdiscussion among the faculties.

• Appointment of focal persons from the departments tocollaborate with DME department to analyze thecoverage of curriculum according to teaching planner.

DIFFICULTIES IN HORIZONTAL COLLABORATION

• Some topics are isolated topics so they have toteach individually like most of the topics of Eye,ENT, Neurosurgery, Forensic Medicine andCommunity Medicine etc.

FUTURE PROSPECTS OF HORIZONTAL

COLLABORATION

• To analyze and submit results of our horizontalcollaboration pilot project.

• Under the kind guidance of UHS and PMDCconvert to the integrated modular system.

• To get training of the faculties as per vision,program and strategy of PMDC and UHS.

FUTURE PLANNING

• To request UHS to include our faculty indifferent academic and extracurricular activitiesto be held at UHS.

• To support our newly established institution foroutreach program in our institution.

• Request to VC to support and patronize ourinstitution for make this institution as the centreof Excellence.
