President ’s Message
Dear Horizons Neighbors,
This letter is in part an effort to fulfil one of my New Year’s resolutions. Not my every year resolutions to
exercise more often eat better, loose ten pounds or even to be a better Mom and Grandma. This year I have
also resolved to take time to thank the people who make my life more enjoyable. My first attempt on this
first day of January to fulfil this resolution is to thank many of you who have shown an interest in what the
Board is doing. You have done this by sharing your suggestions or questions, attendance at Board meetings,
or just sharing a kind word. There is one homeowner I cannot name who deserves a special thanks. This
homeowner felt clean windows would be nice for the Holiday season thus suggested we stop painting the
building prior to Thanksgiving and not resume the painting till after Christmas! Glad to say we listened! Your
interest helps keep Board members determined to work hard and do their very best on your behalf.
As per Monique’s update most of you are aware that in the first 20 days of January we will complete the
roofs, replace condenser motors, replace the base of the cooling tower and put in place a new security team.
On the third and fourth it appears we will be doing all these activities at once!! Hopefully painting will
resume in mid to late January. To say the least it will be a busy month!
Plans are well under way to replace the first wave of planters in the near future. Several planters have leaked
in the past causing damage to whatever is below them. The next planters to be replaced are those over the
area where many of the Horizon’s documents as well as other items are stored. The planters are a portion of
the construction defect litigation.
I hope to see many of you at our next Board meeting. I believe Monique will be informing us of possible
techniques to repair our granitex, as well as the probable cost of repairs.
Wishing you all A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Warm Regards,
Susan M. Gorelick, President

Manager’s Message
Holiday Fund
On behalf of the Horizons Staff, we would like to thank the residents who contributed to
the Holiday Fund. This year $20,840 was distributed to the janitorial team, access
control officers, manager assistant, and building engineer. All are extremely grateful for
your generosity!
Holiday Decorations As a friendly reminder, please remove your holiday decorations from balconies, patios, and decks by January 10 per the Community Handbook.
2018 Budget Increase Reminder to update your bank or checkbook with the new amount for January. The 2018 January statement will show your assessment increase as approximately $43 per month per unit on average. This is an aggregate increase in overall assessment revenue of 4.24%, which was less than what was anticipated due to savings in various line items. For Owners signed up through ACH directly with Action, the amount is updated automatically.
Allied Universal as the New Security Company Allied Universal will employ and manage the security officers starting January 5, 2018. All current Access Control Officers were given the option to interview with Allied Universal. Some chose to transfer to a different Action property or are interviewing for such a transfer. During the transition process, you will see both new and old faces.
Upcoming Projects 1/2/2018 – 1/19/2018 Roof Replacement: The final six small roofs will be replaced as a few are showing signs of water leaks and all other roofs already have been replaced. 1/3/2018 – 1/4/2018 Condenser Motor Replacement: Two motors are to be replaced.
1/4/2018 – 1/19/2018 Cooling Tower Base Replacement: The bases on both towers will be replaced.
Please note that project dates may fluctuate give or take a few days due to unforeseen circumstances.
We thank you, Charles James, for your five years of service to Horizons. You've been with us since January 11, 2013. You’ve worked as a team player and have been loyal to our residents. We look forward to another great year!

Nick Naylor makes his living defending the rights of smokers and
cigarette makers. Confronted by health zealots out to ban tobacco
and an opportunistic senator who wants to put poison labels on
cigarette packs Nick goes on the offensive on TV talk shows and
enlisting a Hollywood super-agent to promote smoking in
movies. Nick says he is just doing what it takes to pay the
mortgage but the increased scrutiny of his son and a very real
death threat may force him to think differently. This movie is
rated at 86% on rotten tomatoes.
