2018 ANNUAL REPORT
HOPE Starts Here

aurorafcs.org
Everyone who comes through our front door at Family Counseling Service HOPES for something: to save a relationship, recover from a suicide attempt, overcome worry, survive a traumatic event, or succeed in school.HOPE is why I come to work every day. It’s why our counselors and social workers spend evenings here away from their families. HOPE is why doctors send their patients to us and why parents trust us with their child’s well-being.Listed in the pages of this annual report are the names of people who, like us, have HOPE for the people we serve; so much so, in fact, that they gave to FCS last year. This report shows how we’ve used those gifts to serve your friends, neighbors, and coworkers this year. You’ll read about new HOPE for one special mother and daughter. You’ll also see one exciting way we’re growing—we’re opening a new office in Oswego! I HOPE you’ll continue to believe in the work we’re doing at FCS. No matter how you choose to support FCS—by giving a financial gift, by volunteering, or by referring someone who needs our services—on behalf of our clients and our staff who serve them,Thank you for choosing HOPE.

What do YOU hope for?
Molly Monaghan, M.S.
SOMETIMES FAMILIES GET STUCK in unhealthy communication patterns and need outside help to break free. That’s where our caring therapists come in. This is the story of encouraging transformation for one mother and her daughter.
Therapist Molly Monaghan tells of her experience:“My client was defiant and had angry outbursts directed at her mother. We focused on helping her learn to express herself effectively and helping her mom learn skills to manage her daughter’s behavior. Using an earphone, I coached the mom from behind a one-way mirror while the two were in the FCS playroom. Mom learned to use empathy skills more, which led to an increase in nurturing behavior and playfulness. Both report that things are going well at home.”
A Story of Hope
The client’s mother attests to the improvement in their relationship:“Working with Molly helped me be a better listener; I learned how to ask questions and communicate in a positive way. I’ve been working with my daughter on her thoughts about herself, to help her feel more secure. I’ve seen amazing changes. She volunteers to help at home, asks for help when she needs it, and even helps with her little brother. Our relationship is so much better. We’re in a good place.”
“Our relationship is so much better. We’re in a good place.”

Hope for 2019: New Office OpeningWe are excited to announce the early 2019 opening of our new FCS location in Oswego. This facility will house 10 counseling offices with additional group space and will offer great convenience to Kendall County residents. This new office reflects our efforts to both stabilize and grow FCS in recent years, as we now have more staff and clients than we can effectively house in our existing building. We are eager to engage additional communities with our
