LISTEN TO YOUR DREAMS God visits Solomon in a dream, and the scripture story nowhere tells us that Solomon awoke to have this conversation with God! So, still in his dream, Solomon answers God’s question about what he desires most, and God grants his request for wisdom in abundance. In our waking hours, we are much distracted by work, home, family, traffic, entertainment, and many worries. When we try to think about what we really want out of life, we have trouble even imagining what that might be. But deep inside, our real longings dwell, known to God and to the Holy Spirit. Our dreams, unencumbered by defenses, may hold clues to what our deepest needs are, or what bothers us most. They could be God speaking. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three

Catechists Needed: As we prepare to begin our school year, we are asking you to consider helping in our Religious Education Pro-gram as Catechists and helpers. Each year, our Catholic Commu-nity faces the happy challenge of presenting the good news of our faith to more than six hundred children, youth and adults of our parish - one of our most important tasks as a family of faith! Help-ers are needed on all levels. Speak with Ms. Patty Rodriguez, 672-6291, if you believe you are called to help in our program this year.

Registration for Religious Education begins this weekend! Reg-istration will be after all masses, and during the weekdays. First days for Religious Ed are Sunday, Aug. 27, and Wednesday, Aug. 30. RCIA classes - for adults preparing for the sacraments, begin a week earlier - August 20-21.

St. James Hall: Our painting continues; new ovens have been installed and work is being done on the kitchen countertops. Soon, the new flooring will go into the kitchen and restroom area.

Leaders’ Mini-Retreat - will take place at Sacred Heart This af-ternoon (Sunday), 1:30-5 pm. This retreat, presented in Spanish, will help us to reflect on how to become more effective leaders in our community. Open to all!

Fiesta Guacamole is fast approaching - September 2-3! If you are interested in making a donation or if you are able to help please contact Fiesta Chairman - Freddie Noyola 830 263-1551 or Fiesta Co-Chairman – Adan Ibarra 830-857-0847. Together we will make Fiesta Guacamole XXXV a success!

Next Weekend, please welcome Fr. Tony Pesek, who celebrates the 9:30 and 11:30 masses. Fr. Tony is the recently retired pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in New Braunfels. That morning, I will be joining Archbishop Gustavo for the last Mass to be offered at St. Stephen Parish in San Antonio. St. Stephen will be closing as of August 6, for lack of resources and personnel to remain open. St. Stephen was my very first pastorate, and although I knew for some time that its closing was imminent, next Sunday is sure to be a difficult time for many who have deep religious roots in that community. We will take heart in celebrating the many life-giving memories that we created together “back in the day” when St. Stephen’s was a thriving parish and a significant presence on San Antonio’s West Side. Please remember us in prayer! -- Fr. Paul

2nd Collection next weekend: Religious Education.

-- Padre Paul
