MEN’S HOOPS - 1985Kenny Patterson collected 13 assists in a 77-65 win over Indiana State at Allstate Arena. Patterson’s senior campaign saw him average 11.0 points and 6.9 assists per game. The 1985 Blue Demons finished 19-10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Patterson was an honorable mention All-American in 1985. In addition, he is DePaul’s all-time assist leader. Patterson played more minutes than any Blue Demon and is the only DePaul player to log 4,000 minutes. He started 114 consecutive games during his time at DePaul.

WOMEN’S HOOPS -2004In a battle for first place in the Conference USA standings, it was the No. 18 Houston Cougars knocking off the No. 11 DePaul Blue Demons, 84-75, on February 20, 2004 at the Hofheinz Pa-vilion. Khara Smith led DePaul with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Charlene Smith added 23 points, six boards and four assists. Smith finished her career as the only player in the school history with more than 2,000 career points and 1,300 career rebounds. Smith led the Blue Demons to a 98-29 record from 2002-06.

A record-setting turnout for Men’s Basketball Alumni Day set the tone for a heart-pounding day of DePaul Basketball as the Blue Demons fell short in an overtime loss, 90-82, to No. 19/18 Louisville Cardinals on February 18.

The day kicked-off with more than 160 alumni and their guests gathering in the Champions Club Room at Allstate Arena for a pre-game recep-tion. Alumni, spanning seven decades, had the chance to interact with Athletic Director Jean Lenti Ponsetto, former teammates, and listen to a pre-game chalk-talk delivered by former NBA player, and 1986-88 DePaul men’s basketball alum, Kevin Edwards.

“I feel honored to be in the DePaul basketball alumni family. It was a great feeling to see so many former players lined up for the halftime presentation. I was honored to be alongside many great players such as Emmette Bryant, Dick Triptow and David Booth, just to name a few,” said Kevin Edwards.

Just before the tip-off, alumni lined up on the baseline for the singing of the National Anthem.

Dick Triptow, Emmette Bryant and the class of 1978 who reached the NCAA Regional Finals were recognized during the special media time-out presentation. The 1978 team included: Randy Ramsey, Joe Ponsetto, Gary Wydra, Dave Corzine, Tom Barr, and William Dise.

Dick Triptow played for the Blue Demons from 1940-44. In 1944, he was named second team All-American.

From 1944 to 1949, Triptow played in the National Basketball League (NBL), and National Basketball Association (NBA). Triptow won an NBL championship with the Gears in 1947.

Emmette Bryant played for the Blue Demons from 1961-1964. In addition, Bryant played in the NBA for eight seasons as a member of the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics and Buffalo Braves. Bryant won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 1969.

Last, but not least, the class of 1978 led by captain Joe Ponsetto, also known as the Godfather, and All-American Dave Corzine, reached the NCAA Regional Finals in 1978.

Alumni in attendance were recognized during a special half-time presentation on the Ray and Marge Meyer Court as Athletic Director, Jean Ponsetto and Vice Chancellor Rev. Charles Shelby acknowledged former men’s basketball participants.

Following the game, alumni gathered for an Ice-Cream social with Coach Oliver Purnell and current play-ers. Coach Purnell greeted alumni and expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the hard work and dedication they contributed to the program.

BLUE DEMON FANS NAMES ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR DOUG BRUNO

DePaul Athletics is proud to announce the estab-lishment of the Doug Bruno Endowed Scholar-ship through the generosity of Heather Nichols Carmody and her husband Dan Carmody. The scholarship annually will provide a scholarship opportunity to a women’s basketball student-athlete.

Heather Nichols Carmody has been a long-time supporter of Blue Demon women’s basketball. She is a partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP where she is a member of the Corporate Department. She concentrates her practice on family office, high-level individual and entity tax planning, estate plan-ning and asset protection planning.

Carmody is a Double Demon, earning degrees in Commerce and Law, respectively. She earned her B.S. in accounting as part of DePaul’s Strobel’s Honors Program. She and her husband, Dan, live in Lincoln Park with their two daughters and dog.

The Doug Bruno Endowed Scholarship is the sixth named scholarship that benefits Blue Demon women’s basketball. Bruno’s name is added to a list of other women’s basketball endowed scholar-ships that include the Barbara Atsaves Pabst, Maggie Dixon, Kathy Booker, Gary & Linda Koche, as well as the Kohler-Hanks Family.

DePaul is pleased to announce a new benefit for President’s Club members: exclusive access to pregame receptions before all men’s and women’s basketball Big East home games in 2012!

The new “President’s Club Room” at Allstate Arena will open Jan. 1, 2012, when the men’s team takes on Syracuse. The club room will offer complimentary refreshments, “chalk talks” with men’s basketball staff, and special visits from DePaul administration.

President’s Club members and their spouse/significant other are welcome to attend the pregame receptions free of charge starting one hour prior to tip-off in the Southeast Party Room. Additional guests are welcome to attend for $20 per person. Preregistration options will be available closer to the first game, so check back for more details this winter. Also, there will be pregame receptions on the Lincoln Park Campus for all women’s basketball Big East home games as well, and President’s Club members are encour-aged to attend! A new KIDZone will occupy southeast corner, complete with a Boot N’ Shoot pop shot game, Demon House bouncer for all little Demons, poster making and face tattoo stations. Fans can also pose with a life size cut out of their favorite Blue Demon. In addition, pre-game photo opportunities with DIBs the Blue Demon mascot for every game.

A new Fan Zone will occupy the refurbished area in the east concourse where fans can gather pre-game or at halftime for refreshments and lively conversation.
