MEN’S HOOPS - 1956In the midst of a seven-game winning streak, the Blue Demons get a 91-77 home win against Lewis. Ron So-bieszczyk ties a career-high with 14 free-throws made. The senior-laden 1955-1956 team led by Bill Robinzine (15.5 ppg), Ken Jaksy (17.3 ppg), and Sobieszc-zyk (22.5 ppg) finished the regular season with a seven-game winning streak before losing in the first round of the NCAA Championship to Wayne State, 72-63, at Allen County Coliseum in Fort Wayne Indi-ana. Sobieszczyk was the first DePaul player since George Mikan to score more than 300 points in each of his varsity seasons.

WOMEN’S HOOPS -2003Despite three players in double-figures, the DePaul women’s basketball team dropped a 71-67 overtime deci-sion at Cincinnati on February 21, 2003. DEPAUL BLUE DEMONS (8-5 BIG EAST, 20-7 OVERALL)

OVERALL: 20-7BIG EAST: 8-5 AP POLL: 24COACHES POLL: 20LAST GAME: W, 71-59, Marquette NEXT GAME: Feb 21. Syracuse

STARTERS: The Blue Demons (20-7, 9-5 BIG EAST) enter Tuesday’s game on a three-game winning streak and are coming off a 77-63 win at West Virginia on Saturday. DePaul erased a 14-point deficit and moved into a tie for fifth place in the BIG EAST Regular Season standings. The Blue Demons are currently tied with Louisville and will face the Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center on Feb. 25.Against the Mountaineers, Brittany Hrynko paced the Blue Demons with 21 points and dishedout six assists. The DePaul freshman has become an assist machine during con-ference play and is averaging 4.6 per game. In her last six games, Hrynko is averaging 6.5 assists and had a career-best nine at Notre Dame.

At Tuesday’s game, the Blue Demons will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) by honoring DePaul’s female student-athletes and members of the Spirit Squads at halftime. NGWSD celebrates the advocacy, education and the promotion of girls and women in sport.

NOTING THE BLUE DEMONSDePaul is 702-400 (.637) all-time... the 2011-12 campaign is the 37th season of women’s basketball at DePaul University... since the start of the 2003-04 season (289 games), the Blue Demons have held 65.7 percent of their opponents to less than 70 points (190-of-289)... in that span, DePaul is 162-28 (.853) when holding opponents to less than 70 points... in that sametime span, DePaul has scored 70 or more points in 192 games. The Blue Demons hold a 120-5 (.960) record in those games... in the same span, DePaul is 52-1, including 50 straight wins, when scoring at least 90 points.

IT COULD HAPPEN:Head coach Doug Bruno could win his 548th career coaching victory and 508th at the col-legiate level… with one 3-pointer it would run DePaul’s streak to 87 consecutive games with a 3-pointer…Anna Martin needs 40 points to tie Sam Quigley (1,273) for 16th on DePaul’s all-time scoring list… Katherine Harry needs 15 rebounds to tie Felicia Chester (751) for 17th on DePaul’s all-time rebounding list.

MANY DREAMS. ONE MISSION. - THE CAMPAIGN FOR DEPAUL UNIVERSITYThe Many Dreams, One Mission Campaign for DePaul University is an historic initiative undertaken in support of one of America’s great universities. It will ensure that DePaul continues to deliver on our founding promise: an excellent education for any talented student who seeks it.

The Campaign supports dreams. Students come to DePaul from across the country and around the world. Their dreams are manycand varied, individual to each, as our students come from all stations in life. Many are the first in their family to attend college.

The realization of their dreams gives rise to new dreams and strong communities. The Campaign supports DePaul’s mission, a mission which blends opportunity and excellence, inquiry and discovery, service to the individual and benefit to the larger community. It is manifested in the work that goes on here every day, in libraries, classrooms, laboratories, practice rooms and on the stage in hours of solitude and moments of connection

ATHLETICS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN NEARS $9.5 MILLION MARKAthletics provides an avenue of opportunity for students at DePaul. Athletics also helps build commu-nity and enhance DePaul’s reputation locally and nationally. As part of DePaul’s $250 million Many Dreams. One Mission. Campaign, Athletics is charged with raising $15.3 million. Strategi-cally, goals have been set to raise the gifts to support scholarship endowment, facility improvements and programmatic support. As of January 24, DePaul Athletics had raised $9.3 million dollars.

INSURE OPPORTUNITY FOR TOMORROW, TODAY THROUGH SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENTSDePaul Athletics fundraising efforts have focused on endowing scholarship and programming needs. Annually athletics spends nearly $5 million on scholarship expenses for its more than 200 student-athletes. By endowing scholarships, DePaul Athletics has the opportunity to enhance scholarships in some sports and redistribute available funding to maximize the department’s resources.
