Hooper Academy Seniors Attend Shakespeare's Scottish Play "Macbeth" On Wednesday, January 23rd, the senior class traveled to Alabama Shakespeare Festival to attend a performance of William Shakespeare's famous play Macbeth. For many of the students, this was their first opportunity to visit ASF, which is one of Montgomery's cultural treasures. They were accompanied by their English teacher Mrs. Candice Foster, Headmaster Mike Petite, Coach Jeremy Arant, and Coach Bobby Hughes. The play was incredible, and we are very blessed to have access to such an amazing educational aid. Hooper Academy Students Give Blood On Wednesday, December 12, LifeSouth brought their bloodmobile to Hooper Academy and held their first blood drive on our campus in more than two years. No one really knew what to expect since none of the students who are now old enough to give were able to give back then, so LifeSouth set our goal at twenty-five pints. Our students blew that goal away, with thirty-six pints donated. It was such a big success that the SGA is planning on having another blood drive in the spring. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped save lives!

Mrs. Moncrief's first grade class participated in D.E.A.R. Day on December 19th. The first graders wore their pajamas and brought sleeping bags. D.E.A.R. means Drop Everything and Read! Mrs. Moncrief used this day for her first graders to work on their reading skills independently and by having Mrs. Richardson's 6th graders be paired as mentors.

Please note:

Hooper Academy Collects Christmas for Baptist Counseling Resource Center

Mrs. Moncrief and Mrs. Fleming's class collected blankets, gloves, socks, and scarves to donate to the Baptist Family Resource Counseling Center. The children decided not to exchange gifts between themselves and wanted to help other children in need.

Hooper PE Focuses on Young Women's Health

Callie Lawhon R.N., was a guest speaker to our 9-12th grade girls Physical Ed. class. She has over 5 years experience in OB/GYN nursing and has been a volunteer nurse at River Region Pregnancy Center for the past 2 years. The pregnancy center is a Christian based facility that ministers to young men and women facing unwanted pregnancies, it also offers parenting classes, post abortion counseling, and STD teaching. Mrs. Lawhon delivered a presentation focusing on young women's health. Students were given the opportunity to learn more about their bodies and making good choices related to maintaining optimum health. Discussion included STD's and consequences of such diseases, also the emotional ramifications of choosing sex before marriage. Students learned that abstinence is the best way to protect their physical and emotional well being.
