The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), a government structure in the Ministry of Environment Climate
Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology Recognize the establishment of the local authority (HCC &
Provincial Governments) NDMO allocated seconded staff to each of hcc & provincial
government in preparatory to disaster response situations within provinces and the city
Honiara City Council in Disaster Response
HCC provided an Office Space for the Disaster Officer within the hcc secretariat
In 2013, with assistance from the hcc management the council accepted and adopted a City Emergency Disaster work plan.

NDMO, released strong warnings of possible flooding because of heavy rain to low laying communities and risk area in Honiara and provinces
The hcc management directed by the City Clerk, who is also the Chair HCC Disaster committee called for an emergency meeting with all heads of division responsible for activating the hcc Disaster response plan.
NDMO, mobilize a few more additional staff to assist hcc.

1. HCC, Coordinating Emergency Evacuations Response for People being Displaced by the Flood to Evacuation Centers, Mostly to Council Schools and Halls, assisted by Churches halls, Schools n privates homes.
2. Coordinating Emergency, Food supply, Clothing, Water, Sanitation, Health Promotion and Clinical attention for the IDPs
3. Retrieving of Dead bodies (hcc Law Enforcement Officers)4. Coordination of Emergency relief supplies5. Coordination of information sharing with Stake holders6. Control distributions of relief supplies7. HCC have a mini warehouse

5- 200 meters near Rivers and Streams within the City Boundary . ( Now in the process for legalization )
• The HCC Disaster Response Plan needs to be reviewed • HCC, Should now – Plan for three evacuations Centers within
the City Boundary (3 constituency within City Boundary( in preparation for future Disasters)
• Honiara City should build secondary access roads (free highway)
• NDMO, should seriously enter an (MOU or a Policy) empowering hcc &local government of specific responsibilities and duties in disaster situation.
• HCC, staff need to be properly trained in Disaster response
