    Shanghai is the largest city bypopulation in the Peoples Repub-lic of China and the largest cityproper by population in the world.

    It is one of the four province-level,with a total population of over 23million as of 2010. It is a global technology, and transport. It is a -iest container port in the world.

    Shanghai sits at the mouth of theYangtze River in the middle portionof the Chinese coast. The munic-ipality borders the provinces of

    Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north,south and west, and is boundedto the east by the East China Sea.

    For centuries a major administra-tive, shipping, and trading town,Shanghai grew in importance inthe 19th century due to Europeanrecognition of its favorable portlocation and economic potential.

    The city was one of few opened toforeign trade following the Opium of commerce between east andwest, and became the undisputed

    The city has a plethora of fooddelights focusing on the tradi-tions of Beijing, Sichuan, Hunan,Guangzhou and of course the local on the Huangpu River is highly rec-

    Sichuan Road meets the demandsof ordinary folk. Xujiahui ShoppingCenter, Yuyuan Shopping City andJiali Sleepless City are also thrivingand popular destinations.

    Shanghai is fascinating for nightowls. The Bund is an absolutemust for visitors. The ripplingHuangpu River, characteristicbuildings on the west bank and ex-traordinarily futuristic skyscraperson the east bank all become moreenchanting adorned in sparklingcolored lights at night. For those

    seeking relaxation and fun, theideal choice would be HengshanRoad and Xin Tian Di which arethronged with a variety of night-clubs, discos and bars.
