My Mom’s Italian Soup This savory, zesty, Italian soup is amazingly warm and deliciously
delectable sure to provide love from the inside out
Enjoy!
Ingredients: ¾ onions, diced
1-2 slices bacon, diced
1 ¼ tsp garlic cloves, minced
1 oz chicken bouillon cubes
1 qt water
2 medium potatoes, sliced or chopped
2 c cavallo greens (or substitute for kale) chopped in bite size
pieces
¾ c heavy whipping cream
1 ½ c sausage link-spicy, precooked, sliced
Place sausage onto sheet pan and bake in 300 degree oven for 15- 20
minutes or until done.
Place onions and bacon into a big pot or crock-pot and cook onions over
medium heat until the onions are almost clear. Add garlic and cook for 1
min.
Add bouillon cubes water and potatoes, bring to a simmer for 15 mins.
Add remaining ingredients then simmer for 5 more minutes.
Let the soup simmer for about 45 minutes, (or longer for softer potatoes.)

The Sociological Perspective
Sociology is the scientific study of social structures. One would need to understand the differences between scientific and non-scientific information in order to fully understand the significance of sociology. In a nutshell, you need to know more than just theories– you need to know the facts too. According to sociologist, Peter Berger, the ability to observe human behaviors through a sociological perspective has been very essential to sociology. This “perspective” shows us how the various choices that we make in our lives are not solely based on personal freedoms, but as influenced by our social environment.

A sociologist by the name of Emile Durkheim conducted research on the rate of suicide in different societies. He found that protestants, men and the unmarried had much higher suicide rates than Catholic/Jews, women , the poor and the married. These results had much to do with social integration and the categories of people that had strong social ties. Durkheim found that most people with strong social ties had lower suicide rates than the more individualistic people that had higher rates. Now, I’m not implying that everyone

in these social groups are more or least likely to take their own lives, I’m just giving an example of research that proves that the choices we make are heavily influenced by more than just our own thoughts and problems, but also by societal factors. Social Research helps assure that sociology remains a science. Sociological research is done three ways: through (1) positivist sociology, which is based on scientific observation of social behavior using variables, the empirical evidence and reliability and (2), interpretive sociology which focuses on discovering the meanings people attach to
their social world and (3)critical sociology which focuses on the need for social change. Critical sociology doesn’t reject using science to learn about what’s going on in the social world but it does reject the scientific neutrality that requires researchers to try to be objective and
limit their work to studying the status quo. Meaning, the research conducted by Durkheim was a mixture of positivist and interpretive sociology. Once fully understood. Sociology is one of the most intriguing sciences to learn, in my opinion. The reason being is that, humans are the subject, and our behavioral patterns and the reasoning behind those behavioral patterns are very interesting. The world of sociology is one cool place, you just have to open your mind up to it. A lot of us know that Benjamin Banneker made the first striking clock made entirely of original American parts. Knowing this, people have made open salutes to Banneker as the black man who invented the first clock. For instance, in a song titled “Black Man” by Stevie Wonder, a line of infamous lyrics read: "first clock to be made in America was created by a black man,“ but a lot of people didn’t connect him to an even bigger form of salute all the way in London, England!
Lots of people link the reason of the clock being named “Big Ben” because of a man ironically named Sir Benjamin Hall (MP Chief Commissioner of Works). People say that the workers began to call it Big Ben in Sir Benjamin’s honor. They say that before the original clock was removed (if it was even removed to begin with), there was an inscription honoring Sir Benjamin. If that were actually true, why wouldn’t they re-inscribe Sir Benjamin’s honor in the newer version of the clock? That’s because it was never in his honor to begin with. The idea of “Big Ben” being named in honor of an African American in 1857 wasn’t something that would be received well by the masses, hence the story spread by mouth from workers in the area and officials. Big Ben is the clock in London, England, named after Benjamin Banneker, the African American who invented America’s first clock. It isn’t irony, it’s Unknown History.
