HOUSEHOLDERS ONLINE MAINTENANCE & ENGINEERING SERVICES (HOMES)By Ramkiran Nanduri

INTRODUCTION

1. Life in the cities is becoming busier day by day and individuals are having lesstime for their families. The only quality time they can have is in the weekends and theweekends are also the only time to resolve pending home problems requiring,carpenter, plumber electrician etc. The problems gets amplified when both the spousesare working. Most of the repairs take only a few minutes, but the effort of finding thecorrect skilled labour, the required material and negotiating a price after consultingvarious friend and relatives, consumes most of the time. Even after price is negotiatedand work starts, supervising the skilled labour is also required to ensure he does not cut

corners or damage the existing fittings. The problems being faced by home ownerseither staying in independent houses or flats with respect to home repairs are broadlyas follows:-

(a) Non Availability of skilled carpenters, plumbers and electricians at therequired time. Availability for emergency services on 24 x 7 basis.(b) Monopoly of skilled labours/technicians at colonies and flats.(c) Non standard rates for various fixes.(d) Advice on types of solutions/alternatives to the problem.(e) Non availability of organized Professional quality work and Guarantee.

2. The main aim of this business is to be able to provide ready solutions to all theabove problems being faced at homes through an online portal. That way, customerscan have a piece of mind and assured quality of service.

THE SOLUTION

3. The mission of Householders Online Maintenance & Engineering Services(HOMES) is to provide maintenance and minor engineering services for householders.The services being provided are the following:

(a) Electrical installations and repairs. These include house wiring,installation of Geysers, solar heaters motors, pumps etc

(b) Plumbing Works. These include water pipelines, bathroom fitments andmaintenance etc.

(c) Civil Works. These include minor modifications to building, distemperingand POP works, retiling, windows and door replacements etc.

(d) Carpentry Works. These include building and repair of wooden cabinets,modular kitchen, cupboards etc.

4. Initially the business will be set up for Delhi only. Within a period of 1 Yr thebusiness will be expanded to other Metros (Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore).The applicability of the business for the entire India would be studied after a suitableperiod and a separate business plan will be prepared for this purpose. The business willinvolve mainly teams of carpenters, electricians, plumbers and civil masons with mobileworkshop vans and material. The request for service can be through online portal ortelephone service. The portal will provide the following:-

(b) User will be able to select the work or maintenance requirement.

(c) The design and material can be selected by the user.

(d) The user will have provisions to customize the design as in the

case of distempering, painting, cupboards etc.

(e) The software will give an price estimate.

(f) The customer service representative will visit the customer with

designs for further clarification and finalization.

5. In case of telephonic request the customer service representative will visit the

customer premises, inspect the requirement and finalize the design using the onlineportal through his Laptop..
