Homemade Deodorant for Sensitive Skin

Homemade Deodorant for Sensitive Skin You’ll need: 1/3 cup coconut oil (like this) 2 Tbs baking soda (You can even use less if you have super sensitive skin…) 1/3 cup arrow root powder (you can get this at most health foods stores or here). 10 – 15 essential oils (optional) (Learn how to get my favorite essential oils at wholesale prices here.) a small mixing bowl and spoon a small container for your finished product (I love these tiny mason jars) Directions: 1. Mix the coconut oil, baking soda, and arrow root powder in the small mixing bowl. Use the back of the spoon to help “cream” the ingredients until you have a consistency similar to deodorant. 2. Mix in essential oils. This is an optional step, but I think it makes it more fun. You can choose whatever oils you want. Some love lavendar or patchouli. My favorite is 10 drops of sweet orange and 5 drops of cinnamon. 3. Put mixture in small container (I use my cute little spatula for this step). To use simply swipe two fingers gently into the mixture and rub on your underarms. Wait two minutes before dressing to avoid any smearing on your clothes. Note: Coconut oil melts when temperatures get warmer. Some people like to keep their deodorant in the fridge during warm months. I don’t bother since I can still use it… even if it gets a bit melty during those hotter months. Not into making your own deodorant? This is my favorite natural commercial deodorant.

All Natural Homemade BlushIngredients:arrowroot powder

hibiscus powder (like this)

cinnamon (optional)

Directions:Start with a base of arrowroot powder, about 1 Tbs. Add in the hibiscus powder one

teaspoon at a time until you get the desired color. Add cinnamon for a little depth and glow.

*Note: Hibiscus powder gives a nice subtle pink glow, but for some it may seem too subtle.

You could also try Alkanet Root powder which has a richer, more reddish, tone. But in either

case, add the color gradually. You can always add more arrowroot powder to lighten back

up, but if you get too heavy handed you’ll end up with a whole lot of blush on your hand.

All Natural Homemade BronzerIngredients:1 Tbs. cinnamon powder

1 tsp cocoa powder

1 tsp nutmeg powder

2 tsp arrowroot powder (like this)

15 drops lavender or rosemary essential oil  (learn how to get my favorite essential oils at

wholesale prices here.)

*If you prefer a loose powder, leave out the essential oils.

Directions:1. Adjust the levels of ingredients to your shade and mix well in a small bowl, and break up

any clumps until it’s smooth. Place the powder in a clean, empty compact and pack it in

firmly. (Find empty compacts here.)

A few tips on the color:

Cinnamon provides glow.

Cocoa gives depth and darkness .

Nutmeg will give a sun-kissed brown.

Cornstarch spreads it all out and lightens it.

Essential oil keeps it together and thickens it.

your desired texture).

Use a brush to apply foundation. Make sure to tap off excess before swiping face.

You may notice that my foundation is ridiculously light in color… that’s because I’m

ridiculously pale. A little cocoa powder for me really is all I need to add. But yours will look

different, don’t worry.

Since I know someone will ask for it, here is a before and after picture. It’s subtle, but I do

think the homemade foundation smooths things out and takes out some of the redness in my

face. Plus it provides a nice “foundation” for any other makeup I might want to put on.

(Sorry for the awkward pics… this is what you get when I have to take them myself.)

Homemade Sunscreen Ingredients 1/2 cup shea butter 5 Tbsp beeswax 1/2 cup coconut oil (where to buy coconut oil) 2 Tbsp Zinc Oxide (I found a source via Mommypotamus for a non-nano

here) ½ tsp Vitamin E Oil ¾ tsp essential oil (citrus oils increase photosensitivity so do not use those

– I used lavender)(where to buy)Homemade Sunscreen DirectionsCombine the shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax in a glass bowl placed over a hot pot of water or use a double boiler. Heat on low until the ingredients are melted and full incorporated. Remove from heat and stir in the zinc oxide, the essential oil, and the vitamin E oil. Pour into silicone mold and place in the

fridge to cool for about 30 minutes. Pop out and store in tins or an airtight container. Store at room temperature.

Homemade Sunscreen Notes These homemade sunscreen lotion bars will melt in the hot sun. I plan to

cut off a small piece to take with me to the pool or the beach and carry it in an airtight container. Once back indoors it will solidify again.

I have received questions about how to apply. You simply rub all over your body while holding in your hand. The texture is firm but emollient and it will feel like a lotion – not soap. You can rub it in further with your hands.

Carrot and Coconut Oil Natural SunscreenPosted on May 15, 2013 by Loulanatural

Natural Sunscreen is top of my list of things to take in my bag whilst out and about or on holiday. I make 30 ml bottles so they are easily

portable and I can have one in my handbag, nappy bag, beach bag and pool bag!

There has been a lot of information about carrier oil SPF (Sun Protection Factor) andCarrot seed oil comes out pretty high (source). Beta Carotene and Vitamin E are super at preventing your skin from burning in the sun. Taken orally and applied topically as a natural sunscreen. Carrot seed oil is a powerful antioxidant when cold pressed (source) especially in fat oxidisation- which is really useful when applied to skin because all cells are made of fat and protein. So protecting that is what we want our sunscreen to do. Add that with other Vitamin E oils like Wheat-Germ and Avocado you have a deeply nutritious blend

Page 8: Homemade Deodorant for Sensitive Skin

Coconuts have been described as the original sunscreen. With a lower SPF factor but many other nutritional benefits when applied topically it is an ideal addition. Over time the coconut oil has been replaced by chemicals. Basically a fat barrier is what the skin needs to protect it- coconut oils Medium chain fatty acids are a perfect fit for this. Plus the anti bacterial and microbial benefits all together you have a match made in heaven!

on its own I think you have a great product but if you like a smell and to double up as askin protector/ bug repellent/after sun these essential oils are key.Lavender is a natural pain reliever, calming, antimicrobial and antiseptic perfect to ease burns and inflammation and balance and cleanse the skin. Gives that comforting herby lavender smell.Chamomile is also a pain reliever and calming. It is also soothing and relaxing. Gives a warm sweet note too the oilGeranium is anti-inflammatory and regulating. It is a powerful smell that insects hate but blended with the above give a nice rosy-minty hint to the oilin the past I have often also added Neroli (very restorative for skin), Frankincense (again to restore and heal skin), lemongrass (protects from bugs) and grapefruit (although not great in the sunscreen it awesome in a bug repellent and aftersun). Please consult a professional Naturopath or Aromatherapist if worried about using essential oils.

Recipe for Natural SunscreenIn a 30 ml bottle mix the following;

5ml Carrot seed oil15 ml Coconut oil

Page 10: Homemade Deodorant for Sensitive Skin

15ml Sweet Almond Oil(optional other oils include; 5ml Avocado oil 5ml Wheatgerm oil)

5-10 drops Lavender essential oil (lesser amount for young children)5 drops Chamomile (Roman) essential oil

1-2 drops Geranium essential oil(add some rescue remedy too if you like)

Apply often, safe for all ages (for babies best to use plain oil blend) especially if feeling burning, stay in shade at hottest times of the day or covered. See 5 ways to Stay Sun Safefor more info. Eating foods rich in carotenes (sweet potato, carrots, pumpkin- yellow/orange foods, also spinach and collards) and Vitamin E (avocado, nuts and seeds) will help protect you from the inside. Enjoy the sun but NEVER EVER Burn.
