What is Home Team Closet?
• A program to empower our communi8es by giving back clothing from professional athletes in an effort to mentor and educate
• 501c3 Cer8fied • Home Team not only gives clothing from the closets of their
favorite athletes; we have a party with the students/residents providing food and refreshments as the players help them shop for items while discussing future goals and aspira8ons
Where Did the Idea Come From? • D.J. Williams and his mother Sherri came up with the concept
• Sherri saw DJ received mul8ple items that ended up never being used; or only worn one 8me from sponsors, his teams and his shopping
• D.J and Sherri conceptualized an effec8ve plan to make it easy for teams and players to donate clothing to communi8es in need
• Home Team was made special and different when it was determined only clothing owned and donated by professional athletes would be used
How Does it Work? • We place a Home Team Bin in the locker room. • Players, coaches and team can donate items as they see fit or
if a player has too many items to bring in, we will pick up said items
• All clothing items are welcome; shoes, hats, workout gear, business aQre, suits, coats, school supplies, etc.
What Happens Next? • Once an organiza8on is chosen we then set up a store for the kids. • Through a small raffle they draw an order they get to shop • The players who are aVending speak to the kids as a group and
individually as they shop for items • We provide food and beverages for everyone in aVendance as this
is a reward for good aVendance, behavior and comple8ng school work.
• Brandon Marshall, Alschon Jeffery, Tim Jennings, and Darryl Sharpton all all par8cipated in our Chicago event. The event was in partnership with the Chicago Bears.
• Antrell Rolle, DJ Williams, and Jon Vilma par8cipated in our Miami event as well as current Hurricane Football players and staff.
How Are We Helping? • The aVending players act as mentors discussing life issues and
hurdles that may be in the way of these students success. • Players assist with clothing choices for the students/residents
with advice as to what may be useful to them in the future. • On the job training; we would like to take a select group of
students for some real life job experience
Why is this Good for You? • Great PR and Media exposure throughout the city • Previous Events have made outlets such as Sirius NFL Radio,
NFL Network, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-‐Times, WGN Radio, ESPN Radio, Comcast Television, Fox Local Chicago TV, The Chicago Tribune, Sen8nel Sun-‐Times, Miami Herald, ABC Miami, Hurricane Sports, All Canes
• No monetary commitment by team or players • Small 8me commit by a team member during event • We make it easy for Team and players by offering to pick up
items directly from facility or residence • Public recep8on has been incredible as communi8es love the
idea that players are gi`ing their own clothing to those in need in the communi8es that support those teams
