Scouting can take place anywhere –even in the comfort of your home!

Buckeye Council is launching a six week program on March 23 to encourage all Scouts, leaders, and their families to continue their Scouting adventure and provide the necessary resources to do so.

Each week over the next six weeks Buckeye Council will send a communication with at-home activities that you can complete as well as details on the Spring BreakOut Award that all Scouts, parents, and

leaders can earn to continue their scouting adventure at home. Upon completion of the HomeScouting program, all participants will receive the Spring BreakOut patch.

The HomeScouting Program is free to all scouts, leaders, and families across the country to participate in! The recognition Spring BreakOut Award & patch will be provided for free to Buckeye Council

Scouts, parents, and leaders who participate. All out-of-council participants will have the opportunity to purchase the Spring BreakOut Award & patch for $5.

Welcome to HomeScouting! You are about to begin a six week adventure with hundreds of other Scouts, leaders, and their families. Scouts will go on adventures and earn advancements that

connect to the weekly topic during HomeScouting. Along with participating alongside your Scout, parents and leaders can take part in the adventure and take advantage of this time and learn

something new in Scouting by getting trained.

At the end of the six weeks, there will be a simple form for all families to complete, showing their participation in the program. Upon completion of the survey at the end, all participants will receive

the Spring BreakOut Award Patch in the mail recognizing them for their achievements!

HomeScouting is completely free for Scouting families across the country! The recognition Spring BreakOut Award Patch will be provided for free to Buckeye Council Scouts, parents, and leaders who participate. All out-of-council participants will have the opportunity to

purchase the Spring BreakOut patch for $5.

Each participant must register online at buckeyecouncil.org/HomeScouting to join the program!

For Cub Scouts & Scouts BSA Youth

For Parents & LeadersWhether you’re a seasoned Scouting leader or brand new to Scouting, there’s opportunity to learn something new. Anyone can log on to my.scouting.org to access hundreds of online trainings that can be completed in the comfort of your own home! Part of HomeScouting will be extended learning for adults to renew their Youth Protection Training, take a training based on their position in Scouting, and learn something new by picking an additional training!

For Everyone!

All Scouts are encouraged to use this time to catch up on rank requirements. Work on Cub Scout adventures and Merit Badges! Most advancement activities for Scouts of all ages can be worked on at home. For Cub Scouting, parents can sign off on achievements and Scouts can use teleconferencing for activities like merit badge conferences. The program also encourages everyone to do things like a backyard campout with your family or a hike around your neighborhood or a nearby park!

Each week, Buckeye Council will provide a minimum requirement to complete for all Cub Scouts, Scouts, and adults. The minimum requirement is fairly simple and easy to do! Then we will provide additional resources, activities, and advancement opportunities around the weekly theme. We’re excited to provide this to everyone, but make sure you are registered for the program to receive continuous information about it!

If you’ve already earned your Cyber Chip and just need to recommit, simply go to NetzSmartz.org and watch two new videos in the elementary section. For Scouts BSA

For Scouts in Grades 6-8:1. Read, commit to, and sign the Level II Internet Safety Pledge & Pocket Certificate. Find a

downloadable PDF here, but purchase the pledge card from scoutshop.org or at your closest Scout Shop for your official certificate.

2. Write and sign a personalized contract with your parent that outlines rules for using the computer and mobile devices, including what you can download, what you can post, and consequences for inappropriate use.

3. On NetzSmartz.org, watch the video Friend or Fake, plus two of the following:• Post to be Private• Split Decisions• Two Kinds of Stupid

4. As an individual or with your patrol using teleconferencing, use the EDGE method and to teach Internet safety rules, behavior, and “netiquette” to your troop or another patrol, or with yourScoutmaster’s approval, teach Internet safety rules to your family. You are encouraged to use any additional material and information you have researched.

5. Discuss with your unit leader the acceptable standards and practices for using allowed electronic devices, such as phones and games, at your meetings and other Scouting events.

For Scouts in Grades 9-12:1. Read, commit to, and sign the Level II Internet Safety Pledge & Pocket Certificate. Find a

• Safety Merit Badge – explain what safety is and what it means to be safe! Learn about safety at home, safety on the internet, and Youth Protection

• American Business – learn about business and how the economy changes. Research a local company and how it applies each of the primary areas of business (accounting, finance, economics, marketing, and management).

• Art – art is more than drawing, you can use your computer to create art too!• Communication – keep track of your communications for a day and see what your log

reveals about the importance of communication in your life. Then create a piece of communications using a computer.

• Graphic Arts– take your design skills to a computer to create a digital image and produce it!• Journalism – learn all about journalism within your community by reading the paper,

an online journal, watching the news, and listening to the radio. • Programming – learn about the history of programming and choose a program to

Merit Badges

For Parents & LeadersThe safety of both youth and adults is an important part of the Scouting experience, not only on the

internet and through Youth Protection, but also during outdoor activities. There are additional trainings available for you to learn about swim safety, driving safety, and more! These trainings along with your vigilance helps to ensure risks are identified and mitigated when delivering the

Scouting program.

Training Tipsmy.scouting.org

1. Go to my.scouting.org and log in2. After logging in to my.scouting.org, you will see your home dashboard3. On the right-hand side of the screen, click on BSA Learn Center4. At the top of the screen, click on Course Catalog5. Within the course catalog, you can choose trainings you want to complete. Trainings range

from Youth Protection to STEM in Scouting!6. To select a training category, simply click on the title or Learning Events7. To add a training, click on Add Plan. After adding a training plan, click on My Learning at the

top of the page. My Learning is a holding place for all the trainings you want to complete and keeps track of your progress!

8. To begin a training, simply click on the training category and then Launch Course for each training module.

How to access the BSA Learn Center

1. To access a list of trainings you’ve completed, go to my.scouting.org and log in

2. After logging in to my.scouting.org, youwill see your home dashboard

3. In the top left-hand corner, click on Menu then click on My Training4. Here you will find the expiration date of your Youth Protection Training. Almost every adult

leader will need to renew YPT in 2020, take the time to do it now!5. Click on Completions to see a list of completed trainings

How to access your Completed Trainings

1. To see who is trained in your unit, go to my.scouting.org and log in. NOTE: only unit key 3’s have access to view the training manager.

2. In the top left-hand corner, click on Menu then click on your unit & its drop-down

3. Then click on Training Manager. Here you will find a summary of your unit’s training.4. Download a list of who’s trained and who’s not by clicking on the icon next to Trained

Leaders.
