“Four of Aquilla house employees have been with HGH dating back to the 80's. That's gotta be impressive right? And two of the remaining staff have been here seven plus years. We don't have a lot of turnover. The residents of Aquilla house get along GREAT with each other and that's always a big plus! And our house dog and cat are a huge factor to the house. I feel the residents take pride in taking care of their house pets. It gives them a sense of purpose and responsibility that they take very serious. I also feel our Administrator and house nurse are two of the main rea-sons are house runs so smoothly with very little problems.”
-Lisa Blucher, House Manager
Employee Spotlight
Aquilla
HGH is proud to introduce Susan Schwab-Moreno as our September employee spotlight. Susan found out about HGH through the PennySaver. In October she will be celebrating her 10 years with HGH! She is an RST at the Aquilla Home. Susan states that the resi-dents at her home have become her second family
because she sees them more than her own family. She has three children: two daughters and one son. Her youngest daughter is the first of her family to go to college and Susan is so proud of her. She also loves
spending time with her four year old grandson. Susan likes her schedule, which is Tuesday through Saturday because Sundays she can go to church and spend time with her family. Mondays she spends time with her fa-ther. Susan has family in Wyoming and used to drive out there every summer. We are so thankful to have
you Susan!

Heat Illness Prevention Summer in East County is a time of long sunny days and hot, dry weather. To stay healthy and prevent heat illness, there are 4 very im-portant things you need to do:
DRINK LOTS OF WATER, STAY IN THE SHADE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, KNOW WHEN TO TAKE A BREAK, & BE AWARE OF THE SYMPTOMS OF HEAT ILLNESS
Common symptoms of heat exhaustion include: headaches, muscle cramps, heavy sweating, rapid heartbeat, feeling tired, nau-sea, vomiting, and dizziness.
If you feel any of these symptoms while working outdoors, please do not ignore them. Find a place in the shade to take a break, drink some water and advise your manager as soon as possible.
Desiree and Alana from HR sup-ported St. Madeline Sophie’s Center by attending their annual fashion show. St. Mad’s provides day program services to many HGH clients. It was inspiring to see so much support from the community.

HGH Training Opportunity for RSTs to work in CCL Level 4 Homes If you are an RST who works in one of our ICF Homes and are interested in working in our CCL (Level 4) Homes, then you may want to take advantage of a training program that has been designed specifically for HGH employees. In order to be eligible to participate in this training program, you must have completed your introductory period and have at least 12-18 months work experience with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. 2. Those who wish to transfer into a Level 4 home on a regular basis, will need to complete an additional 24 hours in-house training.
