PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS

Series of stainless steel plates fitted on carbon steel frame.

Gasket between two adjacent plates seals the space where fluid flows.

Each plate has a corrugate profile for increasing turbulence and heat transfer.

All plates are fitted between a fixed plate and a pressure plate.

The pack is pressed together by tightening bolts.

THE RESULT IS A VERY COMPACT HEAT EXCHANGER: A LOT OF HEAT TRANSFER AREA CONTAINED WITHIN A VERY SMALL SPACE

CORRUGATED TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS

HRS supplies shell and tube heat exchangers fitted with corrugated tubes.

The corrugated profile creates extra turbulence.

It disrupts the boundary layer next to the tube wall.

The extra turbulence created inhibits the formation of fouling layers.

When compared with smooth tube heat exchangers corrugation increases the rate of heat transfer.

Less surface area is needed for a given heat transfer duty. This reduces the size/length of the heat exchanger.

Decreased heat exchanger length reduces pressure drop.

THE RESULT IS A MORE ECONOMIC HEAT EXCHANGER.

The corrugated shape forces fluid particles to change direction.They collide with the tube wall and change direction. The particle exchanges energy rapidly at the tube wall and makes place for the next.Eddies are introduced due to the spiral shape of the corrugation.The traditional boundary layer, always present in smooth tubes, is disrupted in the corrugated tube.

DESIGNED FOR COMPACTNESS:

The MX heat exchanger is designed in such a way that very compact mounting of several units is possible:

Short interconnections between modules on shell and tube side.No use of big diameter bends on tube side.

DESIGNED FOR EASY MOUNTING:

Each product header is fitted by tightening just one nut.

DESIGNED FOR COMPLETE INSPECTION:

The MX works with removable tube bundles, allowing for full inspection and product to product heat transfer in the food industry.

SCRAPED SURFACE HEAT EXCHANGERS

HRS has developed scraped surface heat exchangers for applications where normal shell and tube or plate heat exchangers fail to give the right solution.

What are these problems that normal heat exchangers can´t handle?

FOULING ON THE TUBE WALL

Scraping the tube wall eliminates fouling.

Scraping elements move and mix viscous fluids.

Scraped surface heat exchangers create fluid mixing and clean the tube wall.

UNICUS – THE PRINCIPLE

Unicus is a shell and tube heat exchanger.

Each inner tube contains a bar with scraping elements attached at intervals.

The continuous reciprocating movement of the scrapers eliminates fouling.

The scraper elements mix the fluid.

Better heat transfer is obtained.

Longer running times become possible because the tube wall is constantly cleaned.

SCRAPED SURFACE HEAT EXCHANGERS – UNICUS EVAPORATOR

In evaporation processes where high solid concentrations need to be obtained the typical problem of fouling appears.

Fouling reduces running time of normal evaporators. Periodical cleaning is needed.

Unicus scraped surface technology cleans the tube wall constantly.

This makes longer running times possible.

THE REDUCTION OF DOWNTIME REDUCES PROCESSING COSTS SIGNIFICANTLY. THE RETURN ON INVESTMENT TIME DECREASES DRAMATICALLY.

Where the Unicus is developed principally for continuous processing, modern convenience food processing needs batch wise operations. HRS scraped plate technology solves the problems encountered with continuous processing:

Loss of product due to product-water interface during cleaning.Low volume content of normal shell and tube heat exchanger.

What is needed:

Scraping of the heat exchanger surface: Fouling remains a problem in batch operation.Introducing turbulence: convenience food stuffs are often viscous. Turbulence increases heat transfer.Sufficient batch volume: An appropriate volume is needed to be able to process the right amount.


T-SENSATION – SCRAPED PLATE HEAT EXCHANGER – THE PRINCIPLEPHEPHE CTHECTHE SSHESSHE SYSTEMSSYSTEMSPISTON PUMP PISTON PUMP

T-Sensation works through the scraped plate principle. Steam is introduced into vertically mounted plate sections. These plates are positioned into a horizontal cylindrical tank. The rotating action of the scrapers cleans the outside of the plate service and continuously mixes the product.

FOULING IS ELIMINATED – HIGH HEAT TRANSFER RATE ARE OBTAINED.QUICK COOKING TIMES – BETTER TASTE.
