A Note from our Administrator... What I have enjoyed most since starting this position is getting to know the residents and families. Each have their own unique interests and past experiences. Above all else, is my awareness of the impact the residents have on my daily life and wanting to improve their stay here for however short or long of a stay that will be. As I enter this week, I think about our budget presentation and how that affects the residents and larg- er community. We strive every day to be good stewards of the Dubuque County dollars while providing a home-like environment for the residents. Our most recent surveys prove that as the Inspectors repeatedly say how wonderful our programming is and how the staff consistently fulfill personal resident needs. One sur- veyor said how great it was to hear from employees that have been here for so many years, she doesn’t find that in other facilities. I am happy to announce that Dr. Umesh Chakunta, a psychiatrist from Medical Associates Clinic has agreed to be our Medical Director. Under the Federal guidelines, his responsibility is to implement resident care policies and coordinate medical care in the facility. Dr. Chakunta will be present at our bi-monthly Quality Assurance Meetings to be updated on the current happenings of our facility and offer his professional opinion on any changes we need to make to policies. Lastly, another professional joined our team. Amy Cordingley, RD/LD has accepted our position of Consultant Dietician. Many of you had met our previous Dietician, Kim Peterman. Kim has moved on to other opportunities and is confident that Amy will be a wonderful fit for us. Amy will be participating in Care Conferences on Wednesdays so be sure to meet with her at your next Care Conference. Happy Spring! —Cris Kirsch, Administrator Save the Dates!!! A Note from our Administrator... What I have enjoyed most since starting this position is getting to know the residents and families.

Each have their own unique interests and past experiences. Above all else, is my awareness of the impact the

residents have on my daily life and wanting to improve their stay here for however short or long of a stay that

will be.

As I enter this week, I think about our budget presentation and how that affects the residents and larg-

er community. We strive every day to be good stewards of the Dubuque County dollars while providing a

home-like environment for the residents. Our most recent surveys prove that as the Inspectors repeatedly say

how wonderful our programming is and how the staff consistently fulfill personal resident needs. One sur-

veyor said how great it was to hear from employees that have been here for so many years, she doesn’t find

that in other facilities.

I am happy to announce that Dr. Umesh Chakunta, a psychiatrist from Medical Associates Clinic has

agreed to be our Medical Director. Under the Federal guidelines, his responsibility is to implement resident

care policies and coordinate medical care in the facility. Dr. Chakunta will be present at our bi-monthly

Quality Assurance Meetings to be updated on the current happenings of our facility and offer his professional

opinion on any changes we need to make to policies.

Lastly, another professional joined our team. Amy Cordingley, RD/LD has accepted our position of

If you are able to view our newsletter and calendar electronically and are receiving the

postal mailing, please e-mail Beth at [email protected] so that we can

remove you from our postal list. It is our goal to continue decreasing the postal

mailing as it is costly to print the color copies of the newsletter and calendar as well as

paying the postage. We do have copies available at the visitor sign-in at the Front Desk

also. We will be discontinuing hand delivery to frequent visitors to their resident's

rooms starting in May. Please feel free to grab a calendar and newsletter when you sign

in. To view these items online, please visit www.sunnycrestmanor.org then click on the Current Events

tab.

Medicaid Managed Care -IA Health Link Update If you have received a new card for your resident from one of the three

managed care companies (United Health Care, Amerihealth Caritas &

Amerigroup) it is important that you bring a copy of the card to us or

stop by the office so that a copy can be made. Medicaid Managed Care

becomes effective April 1st and providers have already begun to request

copies of the cards. Again, we request that you keep any mailings from

the managed care companies.

Unfortunately, there continues to be many unanswered questions regard-

ing Medicaid Managed Care/IA Health Links. As of this writing, the two

main physician groups in Dubuque, Medical Associates and Dubuque

Internal Medicine, have yet to sign contracts with any of the three managed care companies. As things pro-

gress and more information becomes available, we will continue to individually work with each resident

and family to ensure that the resident’s needs will best be met with the least amount of disruption in care.
