The Arc of MassachusettsThe Arc of Massachusetts was founded 60 years ago with the goal of enhancing the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and assisting their families.

Today, the 200,000 individuals with disabilities living in Massachusetts and their families have greater access to community-based lifespan supports and services, including early intervention, family support, employment and residential opportunities, and social-recreational activities. The work of The Arc of Massachusetts made this possible.

“The Arc of Massachusetts has played a prominent role

in establishing and partnering with Advocates for Autism

of Massachusetts and has hosted AFAM since its founding more than

10 years ago. The Arc not only provides a ‘home’ for AFAM but is aligned with us in advocating on

behalf of people of all ages on the Autism spectrum.”

- MICHAEL J. BORR, CHAIRMAN ADVOCATES FOR AUTISM OF MASSACHUSETTS

“We at People, Incorporated have supported the efforts

of The Arc of Massachusetts. We have seen firsthand

how The Arc has successfully changed national, state,

and local perceptions and practices.”

- ROBERT CANUEL, PRESIDENT

PEOPLE, INCORPORATED

“The Arc of Massachusetts has helped tens of thousands of people over the past 60 years. We are so thankful that The Arc does the job that it does: banging on doors at the State House and relentless-ly fighting for the rights of disabled citizens. It is our duty to ensure that it has the resources and facilities to continue its work in the coming decades.”

The Arc’s Home for the Future Capital Campaign

The Home for the Future Capital Campaign seeks to raise $1.2 million to build a new statewide headquarters building that reflects our core values: accessibility, inclusion, and collaboration.

The Arc’s present building was originally a private home that has undergone numerous renovations to accommodate an ever-expanding array of needs and functions. The building provides meeting space and training facilities that serve dozens of stakeholders in the disability community, in addition to administra-tive offices and being a resource center.

A new building will allow The Arc to remain at the forefront of the struggle to build better lives for all members of the community. As we face new challenges, The Arc requires an up-to-date facility that can better serve our mission.

The new 3,600 square foot building will be fully accessible to people with a range of disabilities and will significantly increase our capacity. It will allow The Arc of Massachusetts to hold meetings with our dozens of partner agencies,

host legislators and supporters in comfort, conduct efficient legislative outreach through the use of the latest technology, offer a venue for workshops for family members and professionals, and provide a suitable work environment for our team of staff, volunteers and work-study students.

The Arc’s new home will be built on the site of the present headquarters and will include: » a 20-person conference room with a

partition to divide the room into two smaller conference rooms

» an 8-person conference room » handicap-accessible bathrooms » offices for staff, volunteers and

work-study students » resource center » document repository

“Early on my husband and I realized the importance of being strong advocates for our son Michael. We also recognized that the scale of advocacy needed to help him access the services he would need as an adult was well beyond what we as parents could provide. We are so thankful for The Arc’s outstanding leadership and advocacy, on the state and national level, to ensure that Michael and other individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families have access to these critical services. - TRACY ATKINSON

VICE PRESIDENT, BOARD OF DIRECTORS
