COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY The Community Food Pantry continues to give out bags every

Thursday with nutritious staples to individuals and families who live in

Winn Parish. They accomplish this task through the work of volunteers

from all over our parish. They operate solely through gifts and

donations from churches, individuals, businesses, and clubs – without

any government funds. Along with food items, they now offer eggs

donated every week from a local business, school uniforms, Christian

books and devotionals, New Testaments, homemade jellies and jams,

an opportunity to pray with a minister, and enhanced choices on the

“Lagniappe” table. Thank you for keeping this local ministry alive.

A Note from Pastor Danny Keyes Psalm 122:1 “I was glad when they said to me, let us go into the house of the

Lord”.

Those of you who have known me for a while might be surprised to know

that when I was younger I had a drug problem. Every Sunday my parents

“drug” me to church. (To you grammar experts I acknowledge this is not the

proper use of the word drug but bear with me.) I would reluctantly go to

church and while I was there I would try to figure out ways to make the time

pass faster. As a young boy I focused on the wrong things during my time at

church. I am sure there may be some younger folks here who are in that same

predicament today. There might even be some older folks who feel like they

were forced to be here and would rather be somewhere else. Let me share

with you a couple of better reasons to be here than being dragged here

against your will.

Many times we are DRIVEN to this place. There are times in our lives when

we need somewhere to go for guidance and support when there seems to be

no place to go. There are times when we need someone to turn to when there

seems to be no one to turn to. I’ve had some times like that in my life and

have found my church to be a place where I could find hope and comfort in

the nearness of God and in the presence of God’s people. I am reminded of

the words of the old hymn, Rock of Ages, “let me hide myself in thee”. The

more contemporary song In Christ Alone might be more familiar with many

of you when it says “no power of hell, no scheme of man; can ever pluck me

from His hand”. This world has the ability to pull us away from our

foundation in Christ and hopefully we instinctively return to our solid footing

with Him when circumstances weigh us down.

My prayer is that most of us are DRAWN here by God’s love for us, our

love for Him, and our hunger for a word from Him. We all need guidance

from His word and the Holy Spirit. We all need purpose and peace in the

midst of the turmoil that life often brings to us. The good news is we are in a

good place, the right place, where we can have these needs met.

Whether we were dragged here, driven here, or drawn here doesn’t really

matter. What counts is that we recognize the presence of His love and power,

the fellowship and support of God’s people, and allow God to minister to our

needs. If we do that, we can echo the words of the Psalmist “I was glad when

they said to me, let us go into the house of the Lord”.

See you in church Sunday,

The Table

Parents of youth and children, we want to invite you to come to "The

Table". This is a new event through the NCBA focusing on equipping

and discipling parents. Our desire is to make it available to as many

parents/guardians in our Association so we have 2 dates scheduled. In

Winn Parish, we'll be meeting on Monday, 9th, 6:30-8:00pm at FBC

Winnfield. The same event will take place the following week on

Monday, March 16th, 6:30-8:00pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church in

Jackson Parish. This first event's topic is "Social Media." Training for

Families to Raise Up Disciples of Jesus: In the Digital Age. The speed

at which our world is changing digitally is staggering. That's why we

at the NCBA see a need to address relevant issues like social media

and equip parents and guardians to lead and respond with knowledge

and wisdom in training up and raising their families in the day in

which we live.

We'll be discussing 6 of the most downloaded and widely used social

media apps, along with application of Biblical truth in navigating this

ever changing world.

Pastor Search Committee Update Our committee has been hard at work, gathering info, and seeking God’s

guidance on our candidates. We have narrowed our list even further and our

efforts have intensified. We covet your prayers in this process. Ask God to

make the path clear for us. Also, ask God to bring a peace to the candidates

regarding a potential move. We know the Holy Spirit will give us all that

peace we seek and give us clarity. Thank you
