Eight major charities have combined forces to get communities across the UK involved, encouraging people to register events and pledge support in the run-up to Carers Week 2017 a national awareness week that celebrates and recognises the vital contribution made by the 6.5 million people across the UK who currently provide unpaid care for a disabled, ill or older family member or friend. Join Us For Carers Week 12 th - 18 th June. You’ll find us out and about across the borough throughout the week. Visit us at one of our information points to find out more about the services we and other organisations offer in Cheshire East. We are holding a Carers Celebration on Tuesday 13 th June at our Crewe office from 10.30 am until 12.30 pm. Carers are invited to come along for coffee, copious amounts of cake, music and fun. Chat to other carers and staff call us on 01270 257331 for details. Cheshire East Council are hosting a Working Carers event, “I Care” on Thursday 15 th June to highlight the importance of those carers who combine a paid job with their caring role. It will be held at Crewe Alexandra Football Club, Gresty Road, Crewe from 1.30 pm until 6.00 pm to enable working carers to attend. Local employers are also welcome to come along and find out how they can better support their staff who are carers. There will be a key note speaker from Employers for Carers, an afternoon tea, as well as information stalls from other organisations in Cheshire East who provide services for carers. We are hosting a legal information session with SAS Daniels solicitors with questions and answers followed by a session covering basic information and updates around benefits. The workshop will take place at The Mere Court Hotel, Warrington Road, Mere, Knutsford from 10.30 am until 2.30 pm on Thursday 15 th June. Tea, coffee and a two course buffet will be served. We are also holding our annual garden party on Thursday 15 th June from 4.00 pm until 7.00 pm at the East Cheshire Hospice, Macclesfield, come along for a bite to eat, chat to other carers and enjoy the entertainment. Carers are welcome to bring the person they care for to this event. Booking is essential for both the garden party and legal advice events. Please call us on 01270 257331 to book your places. Driving Safely Workshop

Carers are invited to come along and take part in an informal driving discussion

This session is particularly for carers who haven’t driven in a while or may feel apprehensive about driving on increasingly busy roads

Find out about:

Driving safely if you have had little or no experience

How to drive in unfamiliar surroundings and making those ‘awkward’ journeys to hospital

Learn how to safely use sat nav Vehicle checking without getting your hands dirty

And anything else you want to discuss to ensure your safety

Steve Tams of Driving Down Risk is an expert in driver behaviour and will be more than happy to discuss any aspect of

your driving and help you to drive safely and confidently.

Cheshire East Carers Residential

We are organising another overnight break for carers where you can gain some practical knowledge and enjoy some well deserved “me” time.

We have 12 places for the residential learning break to Cranage Hall Hotel, Holmes Chapel on Thursday 12

th October 2017

We will arrive around 1.30pm for lunch and make use of the spa facilities the hotel has to offer before enjoying a three course evening meal in the restaurant.

After breakfast in the morning there will be a short training session prior to departure around 12 noon.

application form will be sent to you.

Priority will be given to carers who have not accessed one of our overnight breaks before.

Your own health and wellbeing, discussing how to be fit for life and your caring role

How your caring role fits in with other aspects of your life.
