Bank Hall Kindergarten Prospectus

Bank Hall Kindergarten has been established for over 28 years and is located in the heart of the Bank Hall Estate, Bretherton, midway between Southport and Preston. The Kindergarten is surrounded by mature trees and green fields – and, as in the

true meaning of the word “Kindergarten,” we have created a “children’s garden” in which your child will feel both happy and secure. We accept children from 3 months

and your child will be in the care of qualified practitioners at all times, many of whom have been with us many years.

On entry each child will be assigned a Key worker who will ensure your child’s care is tailored to meet their individual needs and will help them become familiar with the Kindergarten offering a settled relationship for your child and build a working

relationship with you as parents.

We shall provide your child with a loving, caring environment in which to learn during their most formative years, by offering a variety of equipment and learning opportunities through challenging play whilst supporting them as they take risks and explore within our continuous provision areas. We aim to help stimulate their

minds, encourage language development, teach them the ability to listen and concentrate and develop an understanding of the world around them. Children will be encouraged to share with one another, make friends and establish relationships and we pride ourselves on discipline, courtesy and manners as we maintain clear

and consistent boundaries.

We are committed to the importance of outdoor play and physical development in all children and our establishment offers a large garden area along with an enclosed

woodland area with plenty of space in which your child can both play and learn whilst enjoying life to the full as they develop in a variety of ways, including

independence, exploration and investigative skills, risk taking and self-esteem all of

which helps to support children to develop skills for now and the future.

school Whichever room your child is in, we will be working under the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from 3 months – five years. Areas of Learning and Development shape activities and experiences that we offer to enable us to help children work towards achieving the early learning goals which your child

should have reached by the end of the academic year in which they turn five. Our staff will observe and plan for your child’s future learning by supporting their

development under a principled approach. The over-arching principles that shape the practice within the Kindergarten are:

Under the Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage we have in place an effective Safe Guarding Policy/Procedure which is there

to ensure we safeguard and promote the welfare of all the children in our care. Should staff have any concerns regarding a child, we are duty bound to follow our

Safe Guarding Policy and Procedure.

Our Baby Bluebells Room has a homely feel where your child will be cared for by loving and understanding practitioners as they encourage your child to play, crawl, walk and become aware of their surroundings. Our aim is to provide a nurturing and

stimulating environment which provides them with lots of new experiences.

Our four areas of continuous provision provide opportunities for the children to; develop their senses as they play in foam spaghetti and sand; make marks using their fingers and gross motor skills; use their imagination and imitate home life experiences in the home corner and rest, relax and learn new vocabulary in the

book area

In the physical area we plan space to move, roll, stretch and pull themselves up to a standing position, so they can cruise around furniture and walk. We also offer

opportunities to dance, sing and play musical instruments all of which encourage each child’s creativity. Heuristic play develops curiosity and gives them each a

chance to openly explore without interruption.JANUARY 2020

At the end of each day you will be informed of how your child has slept and eaten,

their nappy changes, how they have been and what they have done that day.

We aim to take the children into the outdoor environment as often as possible so they can take advantage of the natural surroundings we are privileged to have

access to at the Kindergarten.

Each child Is allocated a key worker to ensure continuity of care for your child at all times.

(age approximately 2 – 3 years)

As the children in Baby Bluebells room approach 2 years of age, they will be gradually introduced to our "Caterpillars Room" and a full transfer will take place, dependent upon

the stage of development rather than the age of the child. Here we offer a variety of open ended resources and materials for children to explore. “Wake up Shake up” sessions take place after morning snack to promote physical development and Health and Well-Being,

which continue through to Pre-School. Our continuous provision promotes the three prime areas of Learning with the main focus being on the child’s current interests. We are aware

that children of this age may need time to rest during parts of the day so we have a comfortable area within the book area for children to rest. Caterpillar’s has an easily

accessible toilet area for children who are practicing self-care, and independence is created through a variety of ways. We offer frequent and safe access to the large garden area giving children first hand contact with weather, seasons and the natural world. Children participate in Drama and Dance and Sports Sessions which encourage them to express

themselves freely and develop healthy lifestyles. These sessions continue through to our Pre-School room. At approximately 2 years of age your child will receive a 2 year Progress Report which is a written summary of how your child is progressing against the three Prime

areas of learning, we encourage this to be shared with your child’s Health Visitor in line with their 2 year Development Check.

As children turn 3 years of age they will move into our Butterflies Room where we

encourage your child to be even more independent in their use of the learning environment and their self-help skills. Your child will be supported by the practitioners as they help to

tidy up and set up for meal times. Children continue to take part in activities such as ‘Wake up, shake up’ which will help increase their physical activity and Yoga sessions to support

their well being right through to Pre Sch0ol. Children continue with the Extra-curricular activities. We also support your child’s development to ensure they are ready for the next stage in their learning by providing activities which promote early mark making skills and help each child have confidence in their ability to explore the environment and build on

their existing knowledge.

Our Pre-School Daisies Room is also set up into ten areas of continuous provision which are available for the children to access freely throughout the day. Links between home and

School are important at all stages of education, but particularly during the Pre-School years. As parents, you are your child’s first educators and have an important role to play in Pre-

School life. We ensure we share relevant information with you and will keep you well informed about the curriculum and your child’s progress along with how you can support

your child at home. We provide a parent information board which details forth coming events, health and parenting issues.

We have a rich and stimulating environment which aims to promote effective learning, presenting children with opportunities to explore, experiment, plan and make decisions for

themselves, enabling them to progress in their learning and development.JANUARY 2020

We provide opportunities for children to be “Inspiring little scientists” and to have an

awareness of the value of Science combined with our playful philosophy which empowers us to give children time to think, create and make in whatever way they are motivated. Our baking activities provide children with knowledge of recipes, weighing, mixing, the process of solid to liquid and back to solids as we work together and share each other ideas of why

things happen and how things work.

We have good liaisons between Pre-School and many local Primary Schools which we feel is essential to assist with continuity and progression for each child’s learning experiences and to help provide them with a smooth transition from Pre-School onto Primary Education. We

invite Reception teachers to visit the children and the setting in order to appreciate the learning environment and curriculum the children have already experienced.

Children continue to participate in extra curricular activities with the addition of Spanish lessons on a Wednesday morning.

Being outdoors has a positive impact on children's sense of well-being and helps all aspects of children's development which is why outdoor play is an important part of Kindergarten life. Children have regular access to our stimulating outdoor environment doing things in different ways and on different scales than when indoors. Our very popular Mud Kitchen provides the children with opportunities to mix soil, water and a range of other natural

materials which has a foundational role in early years giving them endless possibilities for wellbeing, development and learning. The use of our two pavilions ensures access to

outdoors is not always “weather dependant” and the natural environment gives children opportunities to explore using their senses, be physically active and set themselves

challenges with close supervision and support.

Our “OWLS” (outdoor woodland learning sessions) improves children’s self-esteem, confidence and abilities as we provide support to regularly engage within the natural

environment – activities such as den making, identifying leaves and why we need trees and collecting natural resources to allow children to create using their imagination further

increases their problem solving skills and improves emotional well-being.

The ethos of our Outdoor Woodland Learning is based on a fundamental respect for children and their capacity to investigate, test and maintain curiosity in the world around them.

TERMS AND CONDITIONSYour child is being cared for and educated during his/her formative years and in order to maintain the high standards of the Kindergarten, it is important that parents read the following conditions and adhere to them.

1. Age of Admittance Bank Hall Kindergarten caters for children between the ages of 3 months and 5 years. Children may start with us at any time of the year. We operate an open access information policy and you are welcome to view our Policies and Procedures, your children’s observations, assessments or records and discuss any problems at a mutually convenient time.

2.Hours of Opening Full time children cannot be accepted before 7.45am. The latest they can be picked up is 6.00pm. Full day: children can attend 8.00am- 6pm. (charges apply to before 8.00am) Children may be dropped off at any time between our opening hours. Parents are requested to adhere to these times strictly. Late collection of your child will involve a charge of £1.00 per minute per child after 6.00pm and £5.00 per early arrival before 8.00am. If any person other than a parent is collecting your child, we must be informed who that person is going to be prior to collection and the password must be used as stated on the child’s enrolment form. All authorized persons to collect your child must be detailed on your enrolment form. We accept responsibility for your child from the time he/she is handed over to a member of staff upon arrival. Parents must ensure that staff are informed of their collection, as we are not responsible for your child after collection from the appropriate room.

3.Absences It is important that the Manager is notified if your child is to be absent. This can be done by phone (01772) 601346 or via our e-mail: [email protected]

4.Holidays

The Kindergarten is open throughout the year except for (Bank) Holidays and approximately 7 days at Christmas depending on which day Christmas Day falls. Exact dates of holidays are displayed within the porch. Full fees are charged for weeks shortened by Bank Holidays. No fees will be charged for ONE week over the Christmas period.

5.Fees Fees must be paid in full, and are due monthly in advance on the

first of each month. It is not possible to offer reductions for whatever reason, such as illness, absence or where the Kindergarten is forced to close due to circumstances beyond our control. Fees are to be paid by Bank Transfer. Our Account details are: Account no: 41806603 Sort code: 60-20-11 . We require a Registration Fee of £100.00 to secure your child's place, which will be deducted from your final months fees. Kindergarten fees are reviewed annually. We accept a range of Salary Sacrifice Voucher schemes. (please ask for further details) We

also accept Tax Free Childcare payments.Nonpayment of fees may result in your child being refused admission.

6.Sickness

Any child suffering from a doubtful rash, sore throat, discharge from the eyes or nose or diarrhea should be kept at home until a doctor has certified that the symptoms have disappeared. Please refer to our Sick Child Policy/Infection Control Policy and Exclusions periods for a more detailed explanation. Should a child become sick at the Kindergarten, every effort will be made to contact the parents. Please ensure that you indicate where you can be contacted during Kindergarten hours. The Manager reserves the right to remove a child to hospital in an emergency.

7.Medicine It is not the policy of Bank Hall Kindergarten to administer medicine unless specifically requested by the parent. In order for medicine to be administered precise instructions must be entered on the medicine record form by the parent and signed each day as understood by both parent and the member of staff who will administer the medicine. Any medicine must be in the original bottle and clearly marked with a large label showing clearly the name of the child and dosage.

8.Clothing and Personal Property All clothing etc.. must ideally be clearly marked/labelled with the child’s name. We aim to take the children out daily therefore it is important that they are provided with suitable clothing such as wellington boots, waterproof coat, hat, scarf and gloves in winter months and lightweight clothing with preferably a legionnaire style hat and high factor sun cream in summer months. Articles are left at the Kindergarten at the owner’s own risk.9.Valuables etc. Children may bring in comforters and small items for "Show and tell" when in Pre School room, but are not to bring electrical devices, jewellery, money or other valuables to the Kindergarten nor are they to bring sweets, chocolate, chewing gum or drinks.10.Parking People using Bank Hall Drive and the Kindergarten car park do so at their own risk. The Kindergarten accepts no responsibility for injury, damage or loss to persons, vehicles or

property. Parents are reminded to drive very slowly especially when arriving and departing and travelling down Bank Hall Drive and adhere to the speed restrictions. Speed bumps are installed along the drive for the safety of the children – Please drive with care

11.Smoking Please note that we operate a No Smoking policy at all times within the perimeter of the Kindergarten.12.Use of mobile phones

We kindly ask that you refrain from using mobile phones/recording devices while on the Kindergarten premises.13. Safeguarding We have an obligation to report to the relevant authorities any suspicions we have that your Child has suffered neglect or abuse, and we may do without your consent and/or without informing you.14. Privacy Notice

We take your privacy seriously and will only use your personal information to manage your account and to provide tailored care to your child. We will contact you time to time via phone, email and via the ParentZone app to provide you with relevant information and updates. We will input your data into our Connect Childcare system which helps us manage the Kindergarten smoothly. Your data is held in a secure data centre and can only be accessed by authorized personnel, personal information will not be shared with any third parties.

A place can only be reserved for your child on the condition that fees are paid monthly in advance - non payment of fees may result in your child's place no longer being

availableOne months written notice is required to request amendments to your child’s sessions

One month’s written notice to be given to the Manager prior to the removal or full months fees shall be payable.

If any of the details that you provide on the form change, would you please inform the Manager immediately.

The Manger reserves the right to remove a child from the Kindergarten for any breach of the conditions outlined above or for any other reason she considers necessary without prior notice.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES PROVIDED AT BANK HALL KINDERGARTENWednesday am – Spanish lesson

Weekly Fun Spanish sessions take place on Wednesdays mornings with LCF Ltd. LCF provides a professionally developed curriculum for pre-school children with

activities that are stimulating and engaging fun. They include storytelling, drama, crafts and many fun songs and games. Resources including CDs, books and activity sheets + Babelzone online activities are introduced by teachers trained and CRB vetted by LCF.

Thursday am – SportsSports sessions are provided by Active Soccer from age 2. Active Tots is a fun and

friendly sports based programme to help develop children’s balance, co-ordination, body strength, throwing, catching and striking skills through little games. Colour, number and shape topics ensure that maximum learning and

development is achieved. The sessions are planned and linked to the standards set at each stage of development of the EYFS and are an excellent introduction to

Physical Education prior to children starting school

Friday – Drama & Dance

Children participate in drama and dance sessions from the age of 2 years. These dance classes give the children the opportunity to develop co-ordination, strength, a sense of

rhythm and musicality at the same time as having lots of fun!Dance classes are taught by Catherine McLean in small groups and include basic dance movements including skipping, hopping, jumping, marching, balancing….and lots more!During the classes, children are encouraged to interact as a group, work with a partner and present themselves individually helping to build self-confidence as well as social

skills.
