Problem Home Automation is currently a

complex process that requires separate types of technologies to automate different aspects of a household

varying abilities can automate their homes Must be reasonable priced so it can compete in

the market, under $200.00 Must not interfere with non-automated devices

X10 Technology

X10 is Powerline Carrier Protocol (PLC): allows compatible devices to communicate using existing 110V wiring at home

X10 transmitters send coded low voltage signal that is superimposed over the 120V AC

X10 signals involve 1ms long 120k Hz bursts representing digital information

Effective data rate: 60 bits/sec
