wicklownews TUESDAY 10 MARCH 2009 45 Living TRAVEL Home and Away ANOTHER new survey has shown that holidays are al- most the last thing most peo- ple will give up in the current difficult financial climate. More than half (59 per cent) said that even if they had to cut back on spending , their main annual holiday would be the last thing they would give up. Eighty-eight per cent of those surveyed would not choose holidays as a primary area to cut spending. I would suggest opting for 10 or 11 night breaks as op- posed to 14 which will save on the wallet but still give you enough time to relax. It’s also worth remembering that some companies may be at risk of going bust, so make sure your travel agent is fully bonded and consider pay- ing on a credit card as this can offer extra protection for your finances if something goes wrong. Bookings to Egypt and Tur- key are up by nearly a third for this summer, bucking an overall mar- ket decline of 11 per cent. The summer performance of the two destinations mirrors their results this winter, when Turkey was up 44 per cent and Egypt 30 per cent, against an overall decline of 7 per cent, according to latest figures To- gether Egypt and Turkey ac- counted for 12 per cent of winter 2008/09 holidays and 16 per cent of summer.
