looking for additional donations to tuck point a section the St. Joe church where we have an estimate of $6100. We could also use additional donations to replace the concrete sidewalk

Thank you Catherine Petrie and the Petrie family for donating this beautiful brazier and stand in memory of Walter Petrie. It was used for the first time to light the New Fire at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday at St. John the Baptist.

Thank you so much to everyone from the parish who donated to my service trip! It was truly a blessing to be able to go and serve the community in Kansas City, Missouri! Through your support, we were able to donate

over $300 to Operation Breakthrough. Thanks again!-

HolyLand Catholic Parishes 6 second Sunday of easter

From the Desk of Fr. Gary:

Folks in Marytown may have noticed (you could hardly not!) that Gerry Heus and his sons moved the garage that was next to the school to the west end of the church parking lot. This was a donated service to the parish. Thank you Gerry. Gerry would like to have his trailer back as soon as possible. The garage is on the trailer. Ron Sabel and Dick Schroeder from our Buildings & Grounds Committee and our parish trustees, Eric Halbach and Pat Olig, considered all possible scenarios with regard to feasibility. By far, the least expensive and quickest option is to cut the old garage behind the church off by approximately one-third to maintain space for the vehicles used by Pete Winkel to mow our cemetery and church grounds. We would reroof and reside the garage. We would then tear down the part not needed and pour a new concrete slab to make a foundation for the garage that was moved. Much of the labor to do this will be donated by parishioners, including members of the Buildings & Grounds Committee. Ron Sabel has agreed to oversee the project. It should be very nice and last a long time. We believe that the overall cost of the project will be between $5,000 and $6,000. When completed it will be a project well done. The cost of this option is the least expensive of all the options considered. Our St. Mary Finance Council recommended going with the above option and I have accepted their recommendation. Because it is under $10,000 we do not need a proxy from the Archbishop. On another note, Ron Sabel has been busily working on getting bids for razing the school in order to comply with Archdiocesan policy and which was included in the proxy from Archbishop Listecki. I am more than aware that their is sadness and even anger over this decision. I believe that we are acting in the best long term interests of St. Mary Parish and our Holyland Catholic Parishes. The people of Marytown, indeed all of the Holyland villages and parishes

have historically rallied together to do what needed to be done. I believe, along with many of our parish leaders, that this decision is in our best interests for the long term viability of our church. In the coming years we will need substantial resources to maintain our church. In order to do that we need to make sacrifices. We are a small, but close knit parish. Since becoming pastor, I have worked hard to get our finances in order. In July, we will begin our third year with the changed formula for supporting our Holyland Catholic School. By the end of next year, St. Isidore and St. John the Baptist will have absorbed $93,000 in additional costs. That has not been without some controversy, but I strongly believe that it was the right thing to do. The money this has cost St. Isidore is just about what will be needed to replace the wall alongside St. Cloud Church. The additional costs to St. John the Baptist will be equal to what we recently withdrew from a money market certificate. This is our reality. We have many generous parishioners with much goodwill who are called upon to support our parishes, fire departments and athletic clubs to name a few. It is the responsibility of the leadership in all three parishes to practice good stewardship and fiscal responsibility while not losing sight of the essential mission of the Church to proclaim the Gospel. If we ever lose sight of our mission or allow bitterness over decisions with which we disagree to divide our parishes both within and between them, we will reap the consequences. May the Risen Jesus and His message of forgiveness and hope guide each of us on this Divine Mercy Sunday.

Fr. Gary

There is a lunch and learn gathering for widows and

widowers at La Clare Farms on the 3rd Wed each month (April 18) from 11:30 to 1:00 PM

hosted by " Grief Relief "of Agnesian.

Pope Francis: “Jesus changes our sins into

forgiveness and our fears into trust. In His Cross

our hope is reborn again and again.”

Psalm 118:24 tells us “This is the day the Lord has made, let us

rejoice and be glad in it.”

Each day there are 2 roads you can choose to take, the high road

or the low road. What is your choice for this day?

The high road begins each day knowing that it is a gift from God.

We are out there cheering others on as well as ourselves. We have

been given this blessing and truly want to share it because this is

the day the Lord has made, and we are glad. We sense God’s

grace even before we open our box of cereal or take our meds, we

look in the mirror...and smile!

Or do we take the low road and worry about all kinds of stuff in

our life before our feet even hit the floor? We turn on the TV and

hear all the bad news. Negative energy takes over our thoughts.

We just know this will not be a good day. We feel hopeless. We

look in the mirror...and yuck!

So, what is your choice? Are you going to make things better or

worse? The good news is that God has already done everything for

us to make this a great day. Our only job is to do this day for Him

and to look in the mirror and say “yes”, this is the day the Lord

has made and rejoice and be happy.

As we being a new day, let us pray:

Dear Lord,

As I begin each day, help me to choose the high road. Help me to

have joy in all that I do and to share it with others.

Amen.
