“SOME ENRAPTURED EVENING” John Heffernan & The Rhapsody Players were
well received by those in their audience Saturday
evening 6 April.
The stage was electrified by Fr. Ed, a master of
lighting design.
All other preparations were seen to by the
Rectory Staff under the direction of Mary Kelly,
Parish Manager, with the assistance of Lorraine
St. John.
Without their attention to detail, the pleasure of
the event would not have come to pass.

Tenebrae...a Service of Shadows
Tenebrae - The Morning Prayer of the Triduum
9:00 a.m.
Holy Thursday - Good Friday - Holy Saturday.
The name “Tenebrae” - Latin for “shadows” or “darkness” - has been given because this Office was celebrated in the hours of darkness, formerly in the evening or just after midnight, now the early morning hours.
There is an impressive ceremony, peculiar to this Office, which tends to perpetuate its name. There is placed in the sanctuary, on the altar, a large triangular candlestick holding fifteen unbleached candles that are gradually extinguished during the course of the service.
At the end of each psalm or canticle, two of the fifteen candles are extinguished, but the bleached one which is placed at the top of the triangle is left lighted at the end of the ceremony.
The desertion on the part of Jesus’ apostles and disciples is expressed by the unbleached candles being extinguished one after the other on the triangle. But Jesus, our Light, though despised and hidden, is not extinguished. This is signified by that one bleached candle which remains burning; it symbolizes our Redeemer, the Light of the World, suffering and dying on Calvary.
It is hoped that many will be drawn to these strikingly odd services that very few parishes are fortunate enough to mount effectively and that they will excite a wider appetite for the daily celebration of Morning Prayer, also known as Lauds celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Monday - Saturday in this parish.
