    *The Confession & Forgiveness

Blessed be the holy Trinity, (+) one God, who forgives all our sin whose mercy endures forever.

    Amen.

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid:

    Silence is kept for reflection.

Gracious God, have mercy on us. We confess that we have turned from you and given ourselves

    *The Greeting

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with

    you all.

And also with you. *The Kyrie (spoken)

In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

    Lord, have mercy.

For the peace from above, and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord.

    Lord have mercy.

For the peace of the whole world, for the wellbeing of the church of God, and for unity of all, let us

    pray to the Lord.

    Lord, have mercy.

For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord.

    Lord have mercy.

Help save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.

    Amen.

    *The Prayer of the Day

Almighty God, by grace alone You call us and accept us in Your service. Strengthen us by Your

Spirit, and make us worthy of Your call, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

The First Lesson Jonah 3:1-5,10 The word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time, saying, 2 “Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city,

and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.” 3 So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to

the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days’ walk across. 4 Jonah

began to go into the city, going a day’s walk. And he cried out, “Forty days more, and Nineveh shall

be overthrown!” 5 And the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and everyone,

great and small, put on sackcloth. 10 When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about

the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it.

    Psalm 62

The Second Lesson 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 29 I mean, brothers and sisters, the appointed time has grown short; from now on, let even those who

have wives be as though they had none, 30 and those who mourn as though they were not mourning,

and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no

possessions, 31 and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the

present form of this world is passing away.

*The Gospel Acclamation (spoken in unison)

Alleluia. The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent,

and believe in the good news. Alleluia. (Mark 1:15)

    The Holy Gospel Mark 1:14-20

14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15 and

saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good

    news.”

16 As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into

the sea—for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for

people.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 As he went a little farther, he saw

James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 Immediately

he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.

    Sermon “GONE FISHING”

Solo "Come, Follow Me, The Savior Spake"

    (8:45 a.m.) Virgil Hobbs (11:00 a.m.) Joshua Fischer

    "Come, follow me," the Savior spake, "all in My way abiding;

Deny yourselves, the world forsake, obey My call and guiding.

Oh, bear the cross, whate'er betide; take My example for your guide."

    "I am the light; I light the way, a godly life displaying;

I bid you walk as in the day; I keep your feet from straying.

I am the way, and well I show how you should sojourn here below."

Then let us follow Christ, our Lord, and take the cross appointed,

And, firmly clinging to His word, in suff'ring be undaunted.

For those who bear the battle's strain the crown of heav'nly life obtain.

    Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth,

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

    born of the Virgin Mary,

    suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried.

    He descended to the dead.

  • 5

    On the third day he rose again;

    He ascended into heaven

He is seated at the right hand of the Father

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

    the holy catholic church,

    the communion of saints,

    the forgiveness of sins,

    the resurrection of the body,

    and the life everlasting. Amen.

    The Prayers of Intercession

With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of

    God’s creation.

The Minister concludes each petition with “Lord In Your Mercy,” and the response is, “Hear our

    Prayer.”

    The Lord’s Prayer

    L. Lord, remember us in your Kingdom and teach us to pray:

    C. Our Father, who art in heaven,

    hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is

    in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

    and forgive us our trespasses

    as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory

    forever and ever. Amen.

    SENDING

    *The Blessing

Almighty God, Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever. Amen.

(Silence is observed for meditation as candles are extinguished.)

Guidelines for Worship in the Sanctuary

Offering plates will not be passed during the worship service but instead, be placed at the entrances.

To help facilitate social distancing, we will be using every other pew in worship, and using the ends of each pew. Each seat will be marked with a bulletin.

The pews unused from the Early Service will be used at the Late Service.

Surfaces will be cleaned after the Early Service.

All hymnals have been removed from the pew. We will continue to use a bulletin containing the worship service.

Several recent studies have found that forceful, sustained breathing, such as during singing, appears to pose a greater danger of spreading the coronavirus. To minimize these dangers, the

singing of hymns, the Kyrie, and the Psalms, will be omitted. In addition to a prelude, we will

be using a soloist for a hymn and speak the remaining parts of the liturgy.

The Sharing of the Peace has been omitted.

We will be refraining from handshaking and hugging.

No nursery or Sunday School will be offered at this time.

The distribution of Holy Communion will be modified to minimize touch.

We will be using wafers instead of bread at this time.

Cups of wine and grape juice will be pre-filled, and cups will be spaced out on the serving tray to eliminate accidental touching of nearby cups.

For the protection of others, the wearing of masks is strongly encouraged during worship. You are encouraged to bring your own mask, however, masks will also be available at the door.

We will continue to record one of the worship services every Sunday morning and post these on the internet, as we have been doing.

    Lenten Tree

As COVID prevents us from meeting and making the caterpillars and butterflies for the

Lenten/Resurrection tree, we will have kits available for all youth and children of the congregation to

create the critters at home. The kits will be in the narthex. In order to have the tree up by Ash

Wednesday, please return your critters and place them in the box in the narthex no later than Sunday,

February 14th. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Goodson.

    Souper Bowl of Caring

The Youth will once again participate in the Souper Bowl Of Caring, on February 7th. To keep

everyone safe, the youth will not be holding the pots as in years past but will instead have the pots

placed in the narthex for hands-free collection. All money collected will stay in our community and be

donated to AIM. Thank you for your contributions.
