Dear Applicant,
Thank you very much for your interest in becoming an Assistant Headteacher at Holy Trinity CE Primary
School. We are one of six primary schools who make up the Primary Advantage Federation. I hope you find
the information in this pack a useful introduction to our school.
Holy Trinity is a successful and lively one form entry primary school located near Dalston-Kingsland overland
station in the heart of Dalston. We serve a vibrant and diverse community, where excellent relationships
promote an inclusive, warm and secure environment where children feel safe and valued.
Holy Trinity provides a calm and happy environment which enables children to learn and teachers to teach.
Judged Outstanding by Ofsted (2013) we continue to develop innovative practice and promote the highest
expectations, aspirations and outcomes for all children and staff.
We are looking for an Assistant Headteacher to join our senior leadership team to support the school in
providing the best possible standards of teaching and learning for our community.
The main duty of this role is to lead in the development, direction and oversight of literacy, promoting high
standards of teaching and learning and pupil achievement.
Our new Assistant Headteacher will join a committed and hardworking team who strive to provide the best
education and outcomes for all children.

Holy Trinity is a one form entry Church of England Primary School located in the heart of Dalston. We have
classes of 30 pupils from Reception to Year 6 and a Nursery for up to 26 FTE pupils. Holy Trinity is one of six
schools belonging to the Primary Advantage Federation, with Sian Davies as the Executive Principal. Yvonne
Barnett, is the Head of School and leads on teaching and learning in the school and is supported by a strong
Senior Leadership Team.

Holy Trinity provides a safe and happy learning environment where children and adults are valued,
nurtured and empowered. We believe that everyone in the school community is responsible for instilling
in our children the values that will help them to become confident and responsible members of society.

Primary Advantage National Teaching Schools
Teaching schools are outstanding schools that work with others to provide high-quality training and
development to new and experienced school staff. They are part of the government’s plan to give schools a
central role in raising standards by developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system.
St John and St James, Holy Trinity and Springfield are designated teaching schools, working in collaboration
with the other three schools in the federation; St Matthias, Morningside and St John the Baptist. The school
works in partnership with primary schools across the borough and beyond and play a key role within the
Primary Advantage National Teaching Schools Alliance.

WITH HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, DALSTON
The school enjoys an active partnership with the local parish church, Holy Trinity in Dalston. We frequently
visit the church for assemblies, services, and celebrate important Christian festivals such as Christmas and
Easter together. Our distinctiveness as a Church school is built on the following:

Role Summary:
Key Accountabilities in addition to those of a Main Scale Teacher – Please also refer to the Job Description for Class Teacher.
The Assistant Headteacher is responsible for managing the operation of key areas in the school. The Assistant Head provides support for the Headteacher in the day to day running of the school and can deputise in his/her absence.
The current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document describes duties which are required to be undertaken by teachers in the course of their employment. In addition certain particular duties are reasonably required to be exercised, and completed in a satisfactory manner. It is the contractual duty of the post holder to ensure that his/her professional duties are discharged effectively.

Job Purpose
To lead in the development, direction and oversight of literacy, promoting high standards of teaching and learning and pupil achievement.
Duties
Literacy
1. To shape the vision and direction of literacy across
the school, setting out very high expectations with a clear focus on pupil achievement and teachers subject knowledge.
2. To assist in the formulation, monitoring, evaluation and revision of the school’s policies and schemes of work.
3. To analyse data relating to the subject and use this information when formulating action plans.
4. To compile, review and monitor guidelines showing the development, progression and continuity of the subject throughout the school.
5. To support teachers by offering advice and ideas on teaching methods, classroom management and organisation.
6. To organise whole school and individual CPD for the subject.
7. To be aware of and cater for children’s individual needs, liaising with the SENCO, other schools and the community.
8. To keep all members of the
school community informed of developments relating to the subject and to prepare reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Governors.
9. To keep own subject knowledge up to date through reading and attendance at meetings and courses.
10. To ensure appropriate resources are available, including ICT, within the school and organise their storage.

General Comments
The Assistant Head may be required to work across the Federation and foster appropriate links between the schools. The Assistant Head will be required to teach in classes across the schools and provide a model of good practice for teachers. They may be required to adapt and change plans at short notice. The Assistant Head is required to be flexible in a constantly changing work environment and in implementing the School’s policies.

required on the Primary Advantage application form, and to
submit a supporting statement, addressing all the criteria
identified in the person specification. Please specify the role you
are applying for i.e Assistant Headteacher. The reference
number for this application is: HT/AST15.
Candidates are advised that when completing the references
section on the application form to please ensure that:
• Your first referee must be your current, or most recent,
employer
• You provide a referee who can confirm your ability for the role
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to teach an activity or lesson
and will be advised of the details of the lesson observation prior
to interview.
Candidates must ensure that if they are successful at interview,
that they are able to provide evidence of their Right to Work and
Remain in the UK. The school is not able to employ any person
who cannot validate their Right to Work and Remain in the UK in
the line with the Asylum, Immigration and Nationality Act 2000.
