consists of 50 hours of training over about a 4-5 month period, you will be doing just that.

For more information call Hazel 288-4055 or Paul 706-1677.

FIRST SATURDAY ROSARY, LITANY & MASS

In 1917 Our Lady revealed herself to three

young children at Fa ma in a series of appari ons during one of the most horrific wars humankind had ever waged to that date. She requested what are now known as the First Saturday Devo ons, in order to

make repara on for blasphemies and Offenses against her Immaculate Heart and

for world peace. Today, one hundred years later, the blasphemies con nue so the Knights of Columbus honor Our Lord’s and

Our Lady’s request to make repara on with Holy Spirit’s First Saturday,

Rosary, Litany & Mass. All parishioners are welcome to join us in the Church

January 6th at 8:00AM.

We hear in today’s Gospel story that Simeon finds the Christ child in the temple as Mary and Joseph are preparing to offer up two turtle doves in thanksgiving to God for the birth of the child, as it was prescribed in the law. It is possible that Simeon knew where to look for the Christ child because he finds Mary and Joseph (by the fact that they offered the cheapest of sacrifices) among the poor. Others may have first searched for the Christ child among the rich (the people who could offer a much larger animal.) In fact, many people at the time thought the prophecies of the Old Testament would be fulfilled by

a powerful, royal Messiah, who would be a rich king and mighty warrior. Imagine the surprise: this great Messiah, who will fulfill all the prophecies, came as a weak and tiny baby; He also lived a humble life, with poor parents that could only offer two turtle doves at the temple. The Church has always taught us that we should look for Christ among the poor, and Pope Francis has modeled this well for us. Jesus and His family were poor and humble, which models for us the fact that Jesus isn’t only looking to be with the greatest and mightiest people. His own family was lowly, so we can be sure that Jesus loves us in our weakness and wants to encounter us where we feel the most weak. It is possible that Mary and Joseph desired to offer to God a much bigger sacrifice, but their financial means at this time prevented them. This is fine because God knows that they offered what they could. It is important that we follow Mary and Joseph’s example and simply give to God what we can and not judge our gifts against the gifts others are given.

Are you praying about the vocation God has planned for you—whether it be single life, married life, consecrated life, or the ordained priesthood? God know what is the perfect fit for you, but do you? Spend some time on your knees and talk with others to help you discern where you are called!
