Holy Spirit Memories — September 26, 1969

“… Thomas J Madden of Miami designed the multi-purpose building which was constructed by Don Boland of Titusville at a cost of $100,000. The octagonal-shaped church, assembly hall and classroom building with fully equipped kitchen features an entrance chapel seating 70 persons for weekday Masses. Here there is a portable wooden altar and contemporary carvings of Our Lady, St. Joseph and Stations of the Cross. The wood carvers of Oberammergau fashioned the art out of dark natural wood.

Light Appalachian oak pews have padded backs and seats and padded kneelers in the chapel. The flooring is a neutral shade of vinyl asbestos tiling and the ceiling features blue spruce decking, set off by walnut laminated wood interior panels.

Folding chairs with padded kneelers are used in the hall, where a distinctive red tapestry holds a white dove with seven rays, denoting the patron of the parish.

Eight classrooms with 30 folding chairs with arm tables, encircle the building’s outer wall area. …” —The Florida Catholic, September 26, 1969

PIANO LESSONS

The necessary skills developed by playing a musical instrument are proper positioning of the hands, proper posture, the ability to read music and the ability to sight-read.

These skills help the brain develop in intel-lect and creativity, and are critical to music education. The piano takes a long time to truly become proficient, so ensure that you or your child is up to the commitment.

Angela Dirig, Music Director, is offering pri-vate piano lessons for all ages & levels. Call Angela for more information and teaching credentials at (321) 262-4330.

AUTHORITY OF THE POPE FR. ANDREW WOJTAN HOMILY SUMMARY AUGUST 27, 2017

The authority of the Pope depends on the authority of the Church. There are two principles per-taining to the Church:  1) Jesus founded one, and only one, Church; Mt.16:18 —Church not churches; and 2) Jesus established an authoritative Church. People need to know truth: Jn 8:32, Jn 14:6, Jn 18:37.  People need to know where to go for truth—The Church; 1 Tim 3:15.  And people need to know that the Church has authority; Mt 18:15-18. The authority of the Bible is dependent upon the Church. The Church gave us the canon of Scripture—Council of Rome (382 A.D.), Council of Hippo (393 A.D.), Council of Carthage (397 A.D.)

Apostolic Authority—it’s crucial that we understand that the Church's authority is apostolic au-thority. Read Mt 28:18-19 and Jn 20:21; Jesus was sent with all power and authority in Heaven and Earth, so Jesus sends the apostles in the same manner. Read Lk 10:16; “He who hears you hears Me” to understand full scope of authority. Characterized by charism of Infallibility; Mt 28:18-19 (always with you), Jn 14:16-17, 26 (Holy Spirit with you forever and will teach you all things), Jn 16:13 (Holy Spirit guides them into all truth). Infallibility prevents teaching error in faith & morals.

Who is the Pope? The Pope is the Bishop of Rome; Successor of Peter. It is an office, like a Prime Minister. Read Mt 16:15-19; revelation from the Father, the Rock, keys of the kingdom, binding and loosing. Pre-figured in the OT, read Is 22:20-22; keys-authority, “father” to the in-habitants of Jerusalem, opening and shutting - binding and loosing, house of David.

Primacy of Peter among the Apostles is explained in Mt 16:15-19. Only Peter is given the keys. In Jn 21:15-19, Peter is appointed shepherd. Peter's name is mentioned almost twice as many times as all other Apostles together; Peter is listed first among the Apostles; Peter is first to act (first half of Acts of Apostles). Compare Acts 4:18-20 and Mt 23:2-3 to understand that the OT seat of authority was the “chair of Moses”; the chair of Peter is the NT seat of authority. In Lk 22:31-32; Jesus prays specifically for Peter to “strengthen his brethren.”

LIFE TEEN—All high school teens are invited to the Fall Kick-Off next Sunday, 6-8pm, in

Emmaus Hall. Friends are welcome!

EDGE—All middle school teens are invited next Sunday, 6-8pm, in Emmaus Hall, for Epic Universe. Friends are welcome!
