TODAYS SECOND COLLECTION Thank you for welcoming Fr. Anthony Tan Pham from the Diocese of Long Xuyen in Vietnam. He is part of the Missionary Cooperation Plan. Today’s second collection supports the Diocese of Long Xuyen. This region is located in the most southwestern region of Vietnam, bordering Cambodia. There are currently 234,000 faithful among 4.2 million people. It spreads out to 185 parishes in a region of 6,500 square miles. In 1954, the population of the faithful was 30,000. Vietnam’s population nationwide is shifting from countryside to more industrial cities or further into isolated rural lands where there are no churches or Catholic schools. As a result, the Diocese of Long Xuyen has to build 5 chapels and many class-rooms to accommodate these new Catholic communities. Your support of this collection will be used for this, as well as for training new catechists and volunteers.

First Saturday Rosary, Litany & Mass

Saturday, August 3 at 8:00AM

The First Saturday Devotions transpired from Fatima, where Our Lady revealed herself to three

children in a series of apparitions in 1917. Her appearance coincided with one of the bloodiest and most horrific wars humankind had ever waged. In

order to make reparation for blasphemies and offenses against her Immaculate Heart and for

world peace, Our Blessed Mother requested the five Saturdays for the five kinds of offenses. Today, they

still continue, which is why, the Knights of Columbus honor Our Lady’s request with the

First Saturday Rosary, Litany & Mass and invite all parishioners to join them.

Have you ever prayed for something, but it seemed the prayer was not answered? Maybe you prayed for your team to win the championship, but they lost the game. Maybe you are struggling in a relationship and prayed God would make it better, but it seems to get worse. Our Gospel today tells us to “ask and you will receive; seek and you will ind; knock and the door will be opened to you.” God is always listening to our prayers, but sometimes the way we pray needs to change. Persistence in prayer is not about annoying God so He eventually gives us what we want. Persistence in prayer is about eventually coming to know what God’s will is in our lives and following whatever door it takes us through. We have to also trust that God does not give us a serpent instead of a ish. He gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. Persistence is about us going on the journey to discover God’s love and mercy. Sometimes our sins and faults keep us away from prayer and the belief that God will actually hear and respond to us. We either harden our hearts or believe we are not good enough to deserve His love. In the irst reading, Abraham acts as an advocate for Sodom and Gomorrah. God will destroy the city because of their sins, but Abraham persistently asks if there are 50 or 30 or ten innocent, would God truly destroy it. Each time God does not. This shows that God desires to pour out His mercy upon us. In the end, God destroys Sodom and Gomorrah. It is not a punishment as scolding a misbehaving child, but a result of refusing His mercy. They failed to respond to God’s call for repentance and forgiveness. Our sins are not a reason to run away from God. Our sins are the reason God runs to us. Sodom and Gomorrah are a hopeful warning to each of us to seek His mercy through persistent prayer.

As a young man struggling under the weight of rebellion, addiction and depression, Fr. Rob Galea was considering ending his life but he fought his demons to forge a relationship with Jesus Christ and has never looked back. As well as being an internationally renowned pop sensation and aspiring body-builder, this naturally introverted man with “Forgiven” tattooed on his well-developed bicep is first a Christian and ordained Catholic priest currently serving the Sandhurst Diocese in the state of Victoria, Australia. Wearing his Roman collar, Fr. Rob exploded onto the world music stage in 2015 as a contestant on. With World Youth Day appearances in 2008, 2016 and 2019, Fr. Rob is the company of extraordinary artists who have performed in key Catholic events before a single live audience exceeding 1,000,000 people. Fr. Rob’s book, Breakthrough: A Journey from Depression to Hope, is being produced as a Hollywood movie. He’s known to millions through FRG Ministry– A Catholic movement bringing the love of Jesus and His message of hope to people of all ages around the world. Fr. Rob and his team currently minister to over 400,000 annually, carrying Christ’s message of hope and relationship with Jesus to all they encounter. Don’t miss Fr. Rob Galea.
