M arc h 15, 2015 FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
DEAR PARISHIONERS:
Dear Parishioners :The Solemnity of St. Joseph is celebrated on Thursday,March 19. He is the patron of Canada and of the universalChurch. He is the foster father of Jesus and the spouse of theBlessed Virgin Mary.
The Preface at the Mass of St. Joseph describes him also asa just man and a wise and loyal servant of the Lord.
He never says anything in the Gospels but we see how by hisactions he never under- reacted or over-reacted to the eventsand activities of God’s salvation plan as it unfolded.
The character of St. Joseph developed with God’s graces sothat he overcame fear and grew in his life of prayer andduties to Mary and Jesus.
We should ask Joseph in our prayers to help us to work withGod’s graces so that we may have a stewardly spirit. Withprayer and helping others with their true needs, we can helppeople to be closer to Jesus and Mary.
St. Joseph, patron of Canada, pray for our nation and ourfamilies. Amen
Fr. Galvon

Tenebrae (Latin for “shadows” or “darkness”) is a solemn
observance of Jesus’ passion and death which has been practiced
by the church since medieval times. Please join us as we meditate
on Jesus’ journey to Golgotha with scripture, hymns, poetry,
motets, increasing darkness and silent reflection. The

Prayer to Saint Joseph
O most watchful guardian of the divine family,
defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ;
O most loving Father, ward off from us every
contagion of error and corrupting influence;
O our most might protector, be propitious to us,
and from heaven assist us in this our struggle
with the power of darkness;
and as once you rescued the Child Jesus
from deadly peril,
so now protect God’s holy Church from the snares
of the enemy and from all adversity;
shielded, too, each one of us
by your constant protection, so that,
supported by your example and your aid,
we may be able to live piously, to die holy,
and to obtain eternal happiness.
Amen.

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
Jesus tells his disciples of the immeasurable generosity
God has bestowed on them by offering His only Son for
their salvation. Good stewards realize this wonderful gift.
God has sacrificed what is most dear to Him for our sake.
Do we rejoice in this gift of Our Savior and respond to this
love with our own immeasurable generosity? Do we allow
the light of Christ to shine in the world through us? Or do
we withdraw, refusing this gift, and prefer to live in a way
that denies the light of Christ? This week, reflect on the
ways you allow the light of Christ to shine through you.
Could that light reflect even more brilliantly through you?

A message from Archbishop Miller
to the Faithful of the Archdiocese of Vancouver
March 6, 2015
Last month, the Supreme Court of Canada overturned the law againstassisted suicide and gave Parliament one year to write a new law.This ruling will expose vulnerable Canadians to pressure to end theirlives and could lead to euthanasia in our hospitals and care homes.
With a federal election this fall, there is not enough time forParliament to research, hold public consultations, and enact a newlaw. By invoking the Notwithstanding Clause, this issue can receivethe time needed for it to be adequately addressed.
In your pews is a postcard addressed to Justice Minister PeterMacKay, asking him to use the Notwithstanding Clause. Please signthe card and return it to the ushers. In doing so, you’ll add your voiceto thousands of others urging Ottawa to act responsibly.
This is a critical time for Canada. The Supreme Court has thrown outprotection for the vulnerable. It is essential that government havesufficient time to write new legislation that includes every possiblesafeguard against suicide and euthanasia.
Please continue to promote quality palliative care in Canada so thatCanadians are not drawn to suicide out of fear, isolation or despair.I also invite you to practice the corporal works of mercy of personallycaring for the sick and dying, as well as offering some of your Lentenprayer and fasting for this important cause.
I invoke upon you the blessings of our heavenly Father and with theassurance of my prayers for you and your families, I remain
Sincerely yours in Christ, J. Michael Miller, CSBArchbishop of Vancouver
