Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Our Mission Statement: The mission of Holy Redeemer Parish is to be a Catholic community centered in Christ as revealed through the Holy Scripture, Sacred Tradion and the Church's teaching authority. The Holy Spirit empowers us to reach out and build God's Kingdom as we worship, educate, serve and evangelize. Welcome as we thank and worship God for his wonderful works and listen for his word to us today. 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time The Lord calls each of us to do his will. The problem is that we do not always listen or respond. We get caught up in our own plans and projects. Consider how interested you are in doing God’s will. Perhaps you are not sure you want to respond. What holds you back? What do you need to become more willing to respond? Consider practical things you could do each day to learn how to listen to God’s word for you and become more willing to respond. Sacrifice or oblation you wished not, but ears open to obedience you give me. ~Psalm 40:6 January 17, 2021 Please pray for the repose of the soul of: Therese McAndrew (Dr. McAndrew’s mother) & Velma Hines (long time parishioner) Second Collection This Weekend Today we take up the collection for the Catholic Communications Campaign (CCC). Your support helps the CCC connect people with Christ and builds Catholic communities in the United States and around the world, using the internet, television, radio and print media. Half the funds we collect remain here in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon to support local efforts. Be a part of this campaign to spread the Gospel message. Support the collection today! Let It Ring!

If you call the parish office please leave a message so we’re not playing phone tag. The system rings several times before the voicemail comes on asking you to leave a message. We will get back to you as soon as we can. Even if it’s after 2 pm please leave a message. We will get back to you when we come back into the office, or possibly the same day.

Help us help Santa! The Altar Society is asking for donations of “unused” Christmas fabric. It is used to make Christmas stockings to give to the City of North

Bend to be given out at their yearly Santa event at the Community Center. We provide 200 stockings by November for the Santa event and the children love them. If you can help please contact Sally Gauche at 541-756-2974.

Waiting until God is Heard

We’re often taught that prayer is speaking to God. And of course, that’s part of it. It’s good to pray for the well-being and needs of others — even Jesus prayed for his disciples. It’s okay to pray for our own growth in faith and love. It’s a wonderful, powerful thing, modeled especially by the Psalmists, to give God thanks and praise. And God welcomes our cries of pain and sorrow, offering the Spirit’s help when words fail us (Romans 8:26).

But through the ages, many deeply faithful followers of Christ have practiced contemplative prayer, centering prayer and other forms of stillness before God. Danish theologian Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) expressed it this way: “To pray does not mean to listen to oneself speaking. Prayer involves becoming silent, and being silent, and waiting until God is heard.”
