Band members
Juris Rāts – keyboards. His musical path winds back to Jelgava Children’s Musical
School where he learned to play the piano. Although not much shall be said about the
early days of his career as a rock musician, he was involved in a number of bands and
projects prior to 1997 when Aigars introduced him to the likes of Gentle Giant, ELP and
Dream Theater and asked him to join Holy Lamb. Juris co-produced two of the band’s
albums, ‘Salt of the Earth’ and ‘Beneath the Skin’; he has provided massive contributions
in shaping the sound of Holy Lamb, in particular, the arrangements and compositions.
Ansis Markauss – guitars, vocals; other instruments on recordings. Instrumentalist,
composer, arranger, recording engineer, producer for the bands Morpholatria,
Iconstraints and Rokāde. He has has recorded and released over 10 self-funded albums.
Ansis has also filmed and produced several music videos. He has sung and played
various musical instruments for the mixed choir Mūza and contributed singing and some
bass parts for its album ‘Intro’, which was nominated for the Golden Microphone award in
the Best Vocal and Choral Music Album category in 2015. Ansis has collaborated with
such artists as Laima Jansone, Ira Krauja-Dūduma, Sniedze Prauliņa, Viesturs Donis,
Slava Slushniy and the band Wake Up. His first string quartet composed was premiered in
2015. More recently Ansis has been doing acting for the online series ‘Traces of
Nowhere’.
Aleksandrs Volperts – guitar. Half of his family were professional musicians, so, naturally,
he got a diploma from Jūrmala Musical School as a percussionist and performed in an
orchestra. Alex has been playing the guitar and writing lyrics for Distant Light (later
renamed Vital Science), a Latvian/Estonian prog metal band he formed at the beginning
of this century. In 2005 he gladly accepted the invitation to join Holy Lamb.
Gustavs Pauna – percussion. His passion for music started to develop when he was 10
years of age. Since he comes from a musical family, he first became interested in playing
the piano; that was followed by the guitar and, finally, stopped at the drum kit, which has
remained his passion and affair to this day. Graduated from Rīga Teacher Training and
Educational Management Academy with the bachelor’s degree of Teacher of Popular and
Jazz Music in the percussion speciality. Gustavs has worked with international
musicians such us King B. Val Belin Band (USA/LV), Heatseakers (Norway), Smooth
Criminals (Norway) and several Latvian musicians.
Aigars Červinskis – bass guitar, vocals – Holy Lamb’s founding member, lyricist, co-
producer, composer and arranger (sharing the latter two with other bandmates). He has
participated in every recording session and show of the band. In 2010, he switched from
the guitar to the bass as a result of a line-up change. Putting his gift of words into use,
Aigars has collaborated with Latvian singers Valdis Indrišonoks and Ivars Pētersons,
Latvian band Rebel, British band Thieves’ Kitchen and others. He was the bassist in the
rock band Rokāde, a project put together by Ansis, and has done some acting in the web
series ‘Traces of Nowhere’.
