The Vatican reports that an Italian journalist was not speaking accurately when he claimed the Pope denied Christ's divinity.

The same journalist claims Pope Francis doesn’t believe in Hell. Fake news? Evil in the works? Atheist stirring uninformed hearts. Sadly, a post on Facebook traveled around stating that Pope Francis didn’t believe in the divinity of Jesus. Who would believe that? Well, sadly many. The same Italian journalist named Dr. Eugenio Scalfari, claimed a few different times that Pope Francis also doesn’t believe in Hell. Scalfari is a 95-year-old self-declared atheist and needs us to pray for him. Certainly, all of this is untrue! Certainly, this is something that even non-Catholics would recognize as false…sadly some don’t. It is vital that we stay alert to untruths being spread and do something about it. Initiating conversations and then providing evidence that supports the truth, is critical in defending our faith. The Holy See reports that Scalfari has admitted to not taking notes when visiting Pope Francis. However, he still uses quotation marks when referring to what he thinks he heard the Pope say. Regarding this particular comment, when asked about the information he was spreading about Pope Francis in a recent articled penned by Scalfari, in the newspaper he created, called the La Repubblica, he admitted he hadn’t recently met with the pontiff, but recalls previous conversations regarding Pope Francis’ beliefs on the divinity of Christ. Scalfari admits, it is in his own reading of the Bible, that he ascertains Jesus as just a man… he says because Jesus prayed in agony in the garden prior to his death. We know that is because Jesus was God man both human and divine. Sadly, this is why the Church, prior to Vatican II, discouraged untrained eyes to read sacred scripture on their own…of course we believe differently now but still urge to read in prayer and read with some training of what the Bible is and to know that one must understand the author of each book and what was happening at the time of the writing. Please keep watch to defend our faith. Pray for courage, wisdom and the right words when confronting someone uninformed. The best way is through loving words but firmness is sometimes necessary. Saint Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle, be our protection

against the wickedness and snares of the devil;

may God rebuke him, we humbly pray;

and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,

by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits

who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen

Here are a few ways you can help form your child’s conscience and hearts in our faith.

• Sending them to our Holy Family Regional School is a great start, be sure to ask them

where they saw God each day.

• Take your family to Mass at least one time on the weekends.

o Look up the Readings before you go and discuss and then see what the priest says

about them http://www.usccb.org/bible/. (Look them up in your Bible.)

o Sing, respond and do all the gestures so your child will learn how to participate.

o Help your child pay attention to the Gifts being brought to the altar.

o Watch in anticipation as the priest prepares the Gifts and the puts his hands over

them and calls upon the Holy Spirit to change them into the Body and Blood of

Jesus Christ.

o Help your child wonder why Jesus would want us to have his body and blood

inside of us.

o Talk about walking to the Table of the Lord and receiving Jesus…becoming one

with him.

▪ Again, ponder why would Jesus want this.

o Talk about who you were when you entered the church and who you are when

you leave…was there a change? Should there be a change?

o What do you do after Holy Mass?

• How do you live the rest of the week?

• How does your child see you deal with joy? How do they see you deal with anger,

disappointment, or failure?

• How does your child see you celebrate?

• How does your child see you mourn?

• What does your child see you do when they witness a wrongdoing?

• What words and tone of voice does your child hear when you are angry?

• What words and tone of voice does your child hear when you pray?

You love your child, tell them…better yet show them.

Jesus loves your child even more…tell them…better yet show them.

Teach Me About Scholastic eWallet! A safe, convenient payment option for students. After the Fair, any

unused funds are released back to the cardholder.

What? Book Fair eWallet is a secure, cash-free, digital payment option.

Students use their eWallet to shop the in-school Book Fair.

Where?

Who? Parents create a free account for their student and set a spending limit.

Parents can set up eWallets as early as two weeks prior (October 16) to and through the

last day of your in-school Fair. Students can shop with their eWallets any day of the Fair.

When?

Because parents don’t always have cash on hand to give their kids. (And let’s be honest …

kids sometimes misplace their money.) And it’s a great way for extended family and friends

to participate in the Fair, too.

Why?

The Scholastic Book Fair

is Coming!

Oct. 30—Nov. 7
