June 28th ♥ Thirteenth Sunday in

Ordinary Time ♥ Mark 5:21-43 In today’s gospel reading from Mark, we

hear about two of Jesus’ miracles. A syna-

gogue official named Jairus goes up to Jesus, falls

at his feet and pleads for Jesus to come and heal his

young daughter, who is dying. As Jesus goes with

Jairus, a woman (who has been hemorrhaging - or

bleeding - for twelve years) comes up behind Jesus

and touches his cloak. No doctor has been able to

cure her and she believes that if she can just “touch

the cloak of Jesus” she will be healed. And this is

just what happens -- her bleeding stops. Jesus is

aware that “power” has gone out of him and asks

who touched his clothing. She tells him the truth,

and he tells her that her faith has saved her, and

that she is cured. Jesus then goes to the home of

Jairus, where people are wailing and crying and

saying that the girl has died. But Jesus says to “just

have faith,” and then goes inside, takes her hand

and tells her to “rise.” She immediately stands up

and walks around - to the astonishment of everyone

present.

How do you treat people who are different from

you?

How could you be more like Jesus towards those

who are different?

Friends of the Garden

It is the season, alright. Amanda Cornell helped me transplant 15 summer squash plants from the greenhouse in the garden this last week. Then, I pulled all of the pea plants from the west-most bed, and we shucked 5 pounds of over-ripe, but still edible peas. I pulled all of the plants from the 2nd oldest pea bed and shucked another 5 pounds of similarly really ripe peas.

The snap pea bed I planted 3rd, on the 1st of April, is going gang-busters now. This last Sunday, Kirston Burgher orga-nized another Pea Picking Party. His family and the Khaws picked 24 pounds of peas from that bed. As before, I deliv-ered all of the peas to the main St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank on Monday.

I've got about 50 bush beans in little plastic pots at home that are almost ready to transplant into the ground, with another 30 head of lettuce to go into the ground this weekend. There's close to 80 lettuce starts at home that I'll be moving into 4 inch pots this week.

The tomatoes and cucumbers that I put into gallon pots in the greenhouse are very happy. The cukes are ready to go into the garden in a couple of days. The tomatoes are going to wait until the peas are done. There's 3 beds available for them, and about 40 plants in the greenhouse. If the weather permits, we will have lots of tomatoes later this summer.

Stay hydrated, heat can cause loss of moisture in many ways, not just sweating.
