KLOTHES FOR KIDS I have been working with a support agency in our SE Portland and
have been made aware of an ever increasing need for school cloth-
ing for homeless children as well as those in challenging financial
circumstances. It is so difficult for these children to cope in the
first place, but to stand out because of how they dress is even more
of a blow to their self esteem. I would like to begin collecting gen-
tly worn clothing, including shoes, in the vestibule of church and
then at Holy Family school when classes resume and see how it
goes. I would ask that you think in terms of what your child would
wear to school and contribute accordingly. All ages from Kinder
through high school are needed. If you feel moved to do so and are
able, new clothes would be most welcome, of course.
Thank you so much. A longtime parishion-
Camp Holy Family 2015 A huge thank you to Peggy, Vicki, Chelsea, Fr. Rodel, our Teen Staff
and all the families who joined in and made it the best family camp
yet. We can’t wait until next summer!
A special note of gratitude for all of our parishioners who supported
our BBQ fundraiser in July. Your generosity made camp affordable for
so many of our families and teens. Thank you!

Mark 7:1-5, 14-15, 21-23
St. Mark tells us about how some people didn’t un-derstand what Jesus had to say. The people who were listening to Jesus didn’t understand why His disciples didn’t all follow the same customs that the Jews did. The Jews felt that everyone needed to follow these customs in order to please God. Jesus replied that customs do not make a person good or bad. Their behavior, what they do and why they do
it, is what God will use to judge them.
The Gospel message is that goodness or evil is de-termined in our hearts by our actions and thoughts rather than what we look like. Jesus told us to pay close attention and try to understand His message.

[email protected] Office of Life “Come and See” RCIA Invitation
Life is filled with invitations! Sometimes these can lead us to
totally unexpected experiences. So …. we offer you an invitation that can lead you to a life of peace, faith and hope.
If you have never been baptized and find yourself attracted to the Catholic faith, we extend to you an invitation to explore the possibilities of becoming a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
If you have been baptized in another Christian faith tradition, we invite you to join into full communion with the Catholic Church.
Or, perhaps you have been baptized in the Catho-lic faith but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. Your invitation is to complete your sacraments of initiation.
If you feel this invitation may be intended for you (or you know of another), ask us about how to go about responding to the invitation. Our Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the pro-cess by which one can answer God’s invite

If you would like to contribute financially to the con-struction of these chairs, please share your desire with Fr. Rodel or Vicki Ford. OR place your gift in an envelope marked Sanctuary Chairs.
Blessings!
Holy Family is in need of Catechists,
those willing to share faith with children, teens
and adults.

We have openings for everyone who would like to be part of this great and satisfying ministry.
Please call one of us to talk about the endless possibil-ities of Sharing the Good News with your fellow parish-ioners.
Also, if someone you know is considering the call to serve as a catechist, give them encouragement and pass our names/emails or phone #’s to them.

High School youth exchange programs have been a part of U.S.
public diplomacy efforts since 1949. Approximately 25,000 high school students from around the world par-
ticipate in this program each year. The good will of American host families in opening their homes to these young international visitors is vital to this program’s success.
The Rotary Club of Southeast Portland is hosting a female ex-change student from Turkey this year. Each family hosts for ap-proximately three months. We are looking for families who might be interested in participating in this very rewarding experience. It is necessary to be in the Cleveland cachement area; a student must have their own room.
There is much more to learn about hosting; about seeing a foreign country through the eyes of someone who lives there as well as being able to show the world how American families live and play.
If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Kathy Stromvig - [email protected]
