A Word From Pope Francis“It’s terrible to see an insult or taunt issue from the mouth of a Christian. It is ugly....To insult is not Christian....Before God we are all sinners and in need of forgiveness.”

—Angelus, September 7, 2014

Is it ever OK to use “God” and “damn” together?

When we pray “hallowed be thy name” in the Lord’s Prayer, we give God the reverence he is due. Because the Lord’s name is holy, we

mustn’t abuse it. The Second Commandment tells us not to “take the name of the Lord…in vain” (see Exodus 20:7). With our tongue, “we bless the Lord

and Father, and with it we curse human beings who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. This need not be so…” (James 3:9–10).

What happens, when our reverence is contradicted by cursing? For some, cursing is a cathartic response to pain or anger. Those who view it as a form of stress management or as a substitute for physical

aggression may contend that condemning in this context is neither literal nor deliberate. If God knows our hearts, that our misuse of his name is insincere, what’s the harm?

“A sharp tongue is the only edge[d] tool that grows keener with constant use,” wrote Washington Irving. In other words, if we constantly and carelessly misuse God’s name, we may stop feeling sorry that it offends him. That irreverent attitude is more offensive—and more dangerous—than the vocabulary. Scripture warns, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who choose one shall eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18: 21).

The Rosary: Full of Grace!

The rosary is incredibly powerful! The graces that come to us through this beautiful prayer help us grow in personal holiness, and benefit all humanity in our spiritual warfare against evil. Through approved apparitions, Mary herself confirms and encourages praying the rosary for the glory of God, for the conversion of sinners, and for reparation for our own sins and the sins of the whole world. Our Blessed Mother promises abundant graces and great glory in heaven to all the faithful who pray the rosary daily.

Come one-half hour early to pray with us before weekend Masses! Investing twenty minutes of your time to pray

the rosary can yield fruit for eternity!

Liturgical Ministries Thinking about ways to become more involved in parish life and worship? Consider serving in a liturgical ministry! Time commitment is flexible and can easily fit with family and personal schedules.

There are many ways you can help from time on the job site, to donation of materials or services from businesses, painting trim before installation, hospitality opportunities and to prayers for safety and good weather. The weekends we will need volunteers are June 3, June 24 and July 15. You can find more information on the project on the board in the Ministry Hallway or on our website - www.holyfamilycaledonia.org

Prayer Shawls Care and the love of knitting (and crochet) have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. Many blessings are knitted into each shawl, as the knitter prays for the recipient throughout the creation of the shawl. A Holy Family medal and prayer is attached to each prayer shawl before being sent along the way to the recipient. The prayer shawls wrap, envelope, warm, shelter, comfort, hug, embrace, uplift and hold the person in need. Some uses for the prayer shawl include: comfort after a loss, during bereavement, undergoing serious medical procedures, battling cancer or illness, during separation and divorce, when fighting serious addictions, and other times that we need to be covered and held in prayer.

There is an ongoing need for prayer shawls, and so knitters are needed as this ministry expands further in our parish effort to continue to care for one another and share the love embrace of Christ. Please contact Christine Shafer in the parish office if you would like to help out. A pattern/directions and the prayer are provided. On average, we share about 7-10 prayer shawls per month.

Youth Choirs The elementary choir is now rehearsing for the 11am Mass on March 19. We meet in the music room at 5:30pm on Wednesdays for 1 hour. New members are always welcome.

The K-1(2) choir will be rehearsing on March 5 for the 11am Mass on Sunday March 10.
