MISSION STATEMENT Holy Family Catholic Church is a spiritually and socially active parish. Rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist, we cele-brate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News and providing spiritual growth, support and service with love. Founded by Italian immigrants a century ago, today our parish continues the tradition of extending a loving, caring and affirming welcome to all who join us as we Continue Our Journey of Faith.

26th Sunday in Ordinary Time B-2015 My brothers and sisters in the Lord! Today’s Gospel tells us that any person of goodwill, doing their best to follow Jesus’ footsteps, graces the world. Every good deed contributes towards the battle of evil so downgrading the motives behind someone’s charitable gestures amounts to spiritual grudges. God’s action is not limited to any class of

people. He may be sending His message to us in the most unexpected and tragic things that befall our lives. The scriptures of this day are perfect for us as we celebrate our annual 24th Italian Feast in honor of Maria SS. Addolorata. Lots of hard work goes into preparing for these 4 days and we need to be grateful for all the hands that have worked together in order to make it a success. After all, we are working for the benefit of our parish, and we need to be grateful for the gift of Stewardship and that the Time, Talent and Treasure of our hearts are used for the honor and glory of our God as we share these special gifts with one another. We, too, can fall prey as did the Apostles, since they were anything but pleased when they witnessed an outsider casting out demons in the name of Jesus. They resented his intrusion, were jealous and felt threated, because he was doing his work and yet was not part of their group. They felt he had no right to use the name of Jesus so John’s complaint was one of hope of having this preacher silenced. But Jesus makes it clear that all good comes from God the Father and that doing charitable work was not the exclusive right of His followers. Our parish is comprised of so many gifted parishioners, whether they are a feast volunteer, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Server, or member of any given society, we are all here to work together and not feel threatened by one another’s gifted talents but to give thanks to God for gifts offered by that individual. Once again, I would like to all our festival volunteers, under the direction of Gina Tamburri, for all their hard work efforts in making these days such a success. Many thanks to the Devotees of Maria SS. Addolorata for their continued devotion in honor of our Lady of Sorrows. May God bless you. We must always remember that God moves where He wills and chooses whom He wills. His spirit is at work beyond our imagination. Peace, Fr. Joe

A Message from Fr. Mauro... AN INVITATION TO DISCOVER THE ANSWERS TO THESE AND OTHER QUESTIONS... Do you want to deepen your faith? Do you really believe that God loves you as you are? Do you want to be able to forgive?

COME AND LISTEN! HAVE AN ENCOUNTER WITH CHRIST! Catechesis for Adults & Youth - Mondays & Thursdays - Beginning October 12, 2015, 8:00 P.M., Mother Cabrini Chapel.

(Free Babysitting is available.) Call me for more information: 973-667-0026, ext. 551 What is the Neo-Catechumenal Way?

Thank you to Fr. Joe for giving me the opportunity to write about the Neo-Catechumenal Way. I have been part of this ex-perience since 1995 and it has been the most forming, rewarding and faith-building experience of my life. The Neo-Catechumenal Way is one of the fruits of the Second Vatican Council, aiming to foster a spiritual and liturgical renewal within our parish commu-nity. As Pope John Paul II stated, “I recognize the Neo-Catechumenal-Way as an itinerary of Catholic formation valid for our socie-ty and our times.” Pope John Paul II, Ogniqualvolta, August 30, 1990.

In the primitive church, no one could be baptized without going through a Catechumenate. But beginning with the time of Christendom, in the Constantine Age (5th century and forward) since the Church opened the door to the masses of people, it was more difficult to instruct the people into the faith. Thus, the transmission of the faith was assumed and delegated to the family. In modern times, we can no longer presume that the family, faced with the challenges of modern culture, will be able to form their chil-dren in faith, thus, the need for a Baptismal Neo-Catechumenate, which will help us to rediscover the richness of our Baptism. Pope Paul VI stated, “The ‘before’ or ‘after’ the Baptism (of the Catechumenate) is secondary. I would say the fact is that you aim at the authenticity, fullness, coherence, and the sincerity of Christian life.” (Pope Paul VI audience 8/5/74)

A Message from Fr. Mauro...continued from page 2

And aren’t we all aware of the need for an adult faith formation in our life? When we stop to think of the reason of our believing, or when someone asks us why we practice our faith and why we believe what we believe, we find it difficult to give reason for our faith. Even more so, when we are hit by events that are difficult to understand (tragic events, death, sickness, the abandonment by one who is dear to us, all that we call the crosses in our life), we become puzzled about our faith and some even stray from their belief. The Neo-Catechumenal Way aims to build up in us such a deep rela-tionship of faith with the Lord which will allow us to be con-fident in His Fatherhood for us, no matter what. It is an expe-rience of eternal life already here on earth. It is important for each one to discover that God is our Father who provides for all our needs and always decides what is best for us. It is also important for us to discover that the Church is our Mother, who always feeds us with the best of the food, that being the Word of God and the bread from the Eucharist and accompa-nies us through our life journey. The question may arise but I have faith. Why do I need to begin an itinerary of faith? In-deed, the presence of a Christian community aims at giving the sign of faith to those who do not have faith, namely the “far away” or to those who have lost their faith, “the fallen Catholics.” In our modern, secularized society, it is very diffi-cult to be a Christian witness; therefore we need a stronger faith to face the current challenges.

The Neo-Catechumenal Way is a catechesis which lasts about six weeks, meeting twice a week. The Catechesis is imparted by a lay team, accompanied by a priest, and is centered on the Good News of the love of God (Kerygma), who takes the initiative to rescue all human beings from the slavery to sin to a new life in Christ. All one need to do is come and LISTEN, and you will experience the how good is the Lord.
